Take a Walk on the Wild Side: Family Whale Watch

A whale breaches on Stellwagen Bank off of the coast of Massachusetts.

This is a whale watch with a birding twist! Joppa Flats Education Center invites families on a special excursion offshore to discover the wonder of whales aboard the Captain's Lady III! Play the part of a whale researcher and learn about the lives of whales and the habitats they use to feed, live and breed.

Amphibian eggs are just part of the natural wonders found in vernal pools.

Have you ever seen a spotted salamander or a mass of frog eggs? Many frogs, toads, salamanders, and macroinvertebrates depend on the vernal pool, a unique seasonal habitat, for their survival. Join us for a fun afternoon exploring the amazing life cycles of the animals of the vernal pool.

Circus Kids Intoductory Class

Your child can try circus performing skill in this FREE introductory class!

Kids ages 5-17 are invited to come try out their circus skills at a FREE introductory class! Kids classes are designed to be fun and give kids a chance to try a bunch of different circus arts in one class, with a mix of balance equipment (stilts, tight wire), and manipulation (juggling, hula hoops, circus acrobatics, clowning skills, Aerial Silks & Trapeze. You must call to reserve a spot!

Family Honey Harvesting with Cape Ann Waldorf School

This Honey Harvesting Workshop at IRWS is by the Waldorf School, and will teach

Join Mary Mansur, Cape Ann Waldorf School Kindergarten teacher and beekeeper at Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary for a hands-on workshop to harvest honey and beeswax as we learn about the honeybee, and how humans and honeybees can support one another. Learn how the products of the beehive are utilized at Waldorf School at Moraine Farm  and how the hive and the honeybee can teach people of every age. Participants will bring home a little bear filled with honey.

The Raccoon Club Afterschool

The Raccoon Club is an afterschool program for kids in grades 1-4 in Newburyport

Merrohawke Nature School, located in downtown Newburyport, is offering a new, entirely outdoors afterschool program at its field site in Newbury on Boston Road. Across 30 private acres, kids explore many different ecological habitats including a maritime forest, rocky ledges, wetlands, salt marsh, and the tidal Little River.

Let's Canoe!

Go canoeing at Harold Parker State Forest with the park interpreter!

Join the park Interpreter for a guided paddle on the pond. Call ahead for pre-registration. Bring insect repellant, water and sunscreen, and a life jacket if you have one. Must have prior paddling experience. Meet at the beach on Frye Pond. Under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
