Peabody Essex Museum is excited to have families come see their new space at the museum designed just for innovation! The Maker Lounge is dedicated to creativity and innovation through hands-on exploration with technology, materials and ideas. It builds on PEM's tradition of bringing together new and inspiring objects from around the world and celebrating creative expression through human ingenuity. Tackle a design challenge or tinker with all kinds of materials from circuits to cardboard saws. Both energizing and relaxing, the space has music, iPads and universal phone chargers.

Turn off your digital devices and bring the family to the library for no-screen

Is there too much screen time going on in your household? Coordinated Family & Community Engagement of Hamilton-Wenham presents and evening of fun with music by Peter Stewart, arts and crafts, activities for all ages and an opportunity to visit with representatives from local schools and community members at our first annual Brain Building in Progress Week Celebration! For ages 0-8 with caregiver, older siblings are welcome. The first 50 families in the door will get books and a gift bag.

Make It or Break It Club

The Make It or Break It Club meets every Friday afternoon at the CMNH

The Children's Museum of New Hampshire hosts the Make or Break it Club every Friday from 3:00-4:45 pm. Kids ages 6-12 are invited to drop in to try their hand at a variety of hands-on "making" experiences, using real tools and materials. No reservations are required and different experiences are offered each week. The cost is $8 per session for museum members and $10 for non-members. Multi-session punch cards are also available for kids who want to come each week.

Embracing Family History at Sawyer Free

Sawyer Free Library and the Cape Ann Museum invite families to a presentation on personal family history.  Learn how to use family records to research your own family and history and learn what life was like for your ancestors! Children will see examples of old-fashioned Cape Ann Samplers and family trees, and then create their very own sampler, and paint their own family tree.

Rube Goldberg Machines at Maritime Gloucester

Kids willl use their creativity to create a chain reaction machine at Maritime G

Maritime Gloucester invites kids to a vacation week session where they'll make a 'Rube Goldberg' machine - part of a week full of educational sessions during February vacation! Cartoonist Rube Goldberg was known for drawing complex yet impractical machines, involving multiple steps to accomplish simple tasks.  After looking at Goldberg’s humorous comics for inspiration, students will engineer a Rube Goldberg machine.  Using marbles, Lego bricks, wooden blocks, dominoes, and much more, we’ll build and test intricate machines as we learn about energy, momentum, and engineering.

Maritime Gloucester invites kids to a vacation week session about scrimshaw and whale bones - part of a week full of educational sessions during February vacation! Did you know that humpback whales are named after patterns on their tails?  We’ll look at whale bones and learn about whale and dolphin species found in New England and beyond.  Students will also learn about sperm whales and scrimshaw by handling real whale teeth and creating their own scrimshawed candles to take home.

February Fun-O-Rama is open to kids in grades 1-5 during February Vacation week!

Ipswich Recreation has a great lineup of activities and fun for February Vacation to keep your kids entertained and active with February Fun-o-rama!  Boys and girls in grades 1-5 are invited to join in with their friends at the Winthrop Elementary School gymnasium, playground and theater!  There will be basketball, floor hockey, soccer, whiffleball, Shipwreck, Capture the Flag, board games dance contests and more!

Kids are invited to Ravenswood Park to explore the wonder of snowflakes during this hands-on winter workshop. Attendees start inside to learn how to make ice crystal models and paper flakes and view the famous snowflake photographs of Wilson Bentley, who discovered that no two snowflakes are alike. Then, we'll get outside to explore the wintry landscape in person and catch some real snowflakes, if we're lucky!
