Abbott Library Marblehead - Writing workshop for kids

Calling all boys and girls in 2nd, 3rd, or 4th grade who love to write! This is your chance to get creative and improve your writing skills with fun activities, including Mad Libs, funny writing prompts, group stories, writing games, and more. This class will be taught by two honors students at Marblehead High School. It will take place on Wednesdays in January, beginning on the 9th, from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm.

Join us at Manchester Public Library for Movie Night!  Valentine’s Day is soon. Join us for a romantic movie that was filmed in Manchester.  For three years, Andrew Paxton has slaved as the assistant to Margaret Tate, hard-driving editor at a New York publisher. When Margaret, a Canadian, faces deportation for an expired visa, she hatches a scheme to marry Andrew. Andrew had plans to fly home for the weekend for his grandma's 90th, so Margaret goes with him - to Sitka, Alaska. Tensions between dad and Andrew, an ex-girlfriend, Andrew's dislike of Margaret, and her past, color the next few days, with the INS ready to charge Andrew with fraud and deport Margaret.  This movie stars Sandra Bullock, Ryan Reynolds, and Betty White.

Vacation Kids Minecraft Club at SFL

Kids Minecraft Club at Sawyer Free Library in Gloucester MA

Play Minecraft with other children grades 1-5 (ages 6 and up)  Learn new tricks from each other and explore and build in a world together. This group is for children in grades 1 and up. Due to our child safety policy, at least one parent per session will need to volunteer to stay in the room the entire time of the program, from 3:30-4:30. Please register for just one session per month. If registration is full, please sign up on the wait list and we will schedule you soon!

Learn to Play the Harmonica

Kids ages 8 and up and adults will learn to play the harmonica at the Manchester Public Library

Musicians Mike and Beverly Rogers will be at the Manchester Public Library on Saturday, January 26th, 11 AM with a Harmonica Workshop for adults and children ages 8 and older. Everyone attending will not only hear the harmonica stylings of this musical duo, but will receive a harmonica lesson at the workshop to get you started with your very own harmonica to take home!

Family Nature Night: Half-Moon Stroll

Hike to Spencer Peirce-Little Farm in Newburyport Massachusetts with the Mass Audubon under the half moon.

Join naturalists from Joppa Flats Education Center on a nocturnal hike and learn about nocturnal animal senses, the moon, and the stars! We'll go on a short walk to Spencer-Peirce-Little Farm's back field to stargaze before returning to Joppa Flats' back yard for hot cocoa around the fire pit.

Gingerbread for Grownups Workshop

Tap into your childhood and celebrate the season with this very special adult Gingerbread House workshop!!  We’ll cover all things gingerbread from making and baking the gingerbread pieces, to learning how to easily assemble houses that won’t crumble!  From there, it’s all about creative fun decorating your very own gingerbread house to display & eat throughout the holidays!  Class includes hands-on assembly and decorating, instruction, printed recipes, and take-home gingerbread house. Bark & Read with International Therapy Dogs

Registration is required for Bark and Read, a program that boost the confidence of young readers with Christine Christoforo and her dogs, Cayenne and Rue, who have been trained by Therapy Dogs International.  Registration is required for 15 time slots with the dog.  Stop by the Children's Room or call us at 978-412-8713 to sign up. This program is best for tentative readers and/or children who might be uncomfortable with dogs.

Sweet as Pie Workshop at Appleton Farms

Appleton Farms in Ipswich Massachsuetts hosts a pie making as part of Appleton Cooks!

Its pie time and we have you covered for the Thanksgiving holiday!  Come to the farm kitchen to learn all the basics for making delicious country-style pies including techniques on tender pie crust, rolling & assembly, and proper baking.…..all while keeping it fun, simple, and stress-free.  Everyone will make & take home an unbaked 9" deep dish Apple-Cranberry Pie to bake for the holiday!  Plus, we'll savor and share the recipe for another seasonal pie favorite! Additional pie recipes will be included in the recipe book, and class will enjoy coffee & pie at the end of the workshop. BYOB is allowed.
