Focaccia Culinary Workshop at The Trustees of Reservations Appleton Farms in Ipswich Massachusetts

Is there anything better than good focaccia? In this workshop, participants will learn the necessary skills to mix, shape, proof and bake this classic Italian staple. We will discuss and explore a variety of seasonal toppings, including tips and tricks to get a fluffy focaccia that is also packed with flavor. The main secrets? Stoneground local flour and technique! Class will end with warm focaccia to share and dough to take home.

The menu changes seasonally and each class will provide an opportunity for participants to increase their comfort in the kitchen through new knife skills, techniques and flavor profiles. In this workshop, participants will learn to make our Farmhouse Chicken Pot Pie using locally sourced and seasonal ingredients. Appleton Farms Baker Kami Turgeon will lead a hands-on pie crust making demonstration using local flour. Learn the secrets to a perfectly flaky, sturdy crust, as well as how to make the filling and gravy. Participants will enjoy making pie dough by hand and will take home a prepped pie, ready for the oven! Class will end with a shared pie and sparkling water.

After exploring our maple sugaring tools, use our hand drill to practice tapping a tree! We’ll go through the whole process from maple sugar tree ID to boiling sap, and we’ll be sure to play along the way. Our knowledgable educator will answer your questions so you can be a sugar maker at home. We’ll finish up with a story– and, of course, a maple syrup sample!

Kids and familes will make homemade pasta together at this Appleton Cooks workshop in Ipswich Massachusetts!

Skip the pasta machine and get ready to use your hands to create orecchiette (little ears), cavatelli (dimpled pasta) and more with Chef Emily! This simple pasta dough has just three ingredients, and is easily shaped by both big and little hands. Parents and kids will work together to mix and knead their dough, shape the noodles, then share a delicious meal using local produce and meats from Appleton Farms. Chef Emily will use the finished pasta to demo an easy seasonal recipe and everyone will have time at the end to eat.
