Join Salem Maritime National Historical Park at the Salem Armory Regional Visitor Center for an evening of local ghost stories to celebrate the opening of our newest exhibit, “The Ghosts We Work With: Preservation in the Historic Witch City”. The new photography exhibit is a celebration of the historic places that make Salem unique and the people that help preserve them.

Take in the views of this prominent building where Nathaniel Hawthorne once worked and the U.S. Custom Service operated. This Custom House was built in 1819 and housed offices for the officers of the U.S. Customs Service, as well as an attached warehouse, the Public Stores, used for the storage of bonded and impounded cargo.

Come join North Shore Adventures and Outdoor Center for some fun on the water! No experience necessary. Depart from our private beach in one of our safe, stable kayaks or paddle boards and paddle around the historic Rockport Harbor for 30 mins. See lobster boats, Motif #1, the Rockport Break water, and the gorgeous Head Lands property. This is your only chance to kayak/SUP for free!! Come join us any day Sept. 13-28 at 10:30am.

Maritime Adventure Free Days offers families and kids a unique opportunity to explore maritime history through interactive activities, guided tours, and hands-on workshops. A day of fun and discovery at the Custom House Maritime Museum for the family. These free Saturday events include experiencing a traditional Wampanoag dugout canoe being made by a team of craftsmen. The Hannah, the first of several schooners commissioned by General George Washington, began her career as an armed cruiser in September 1775. To commemorate that important part of Marblehead’s history, the Fame – similar in size and appearance to the Hannah (aka Schooner Fame)– will be docked at Marblehead’s Town Landing from 9:00 am to 10:15 am on Saturday, September 20th, and Sunday, September 21st.

How did water drive early industries in colonial Massachusetts? Join a park ranger for a special tour focused on waterpower at the Saugus Iron Works in Massachusetts. Hear the crash of the hammer and the bang of the bellows as we demonstrate a variety of waterwheels at the Iron Works. Learn how waterwheels were made historically, and how modern carpenters and preservationists repair and rebuild waterwheels.

Come to Mack Park in Salem, Massachusetts for food, drinks, music, and fun to support the Mack Park Farm! Our mission is to to enhance local & regional food security by providing our community with healthy, locally grown food, build community through urban farming, & engage the community in the benefits of regenerative farming practices. This is a fundraiser for Mack Park Farm Community Garden.

Marine Society Outings are designed for children ages 8-14. Each outing is five hours on the water, 9:00-2:00, usually with a stop at the islands to swim off the boat (swimming is optional). Participants raise and trim the sails, learn knots, steer the boat, and play silly camp games. We accept 16 kids per session. Cost is $85. For Salem residents the cost is just $55, thanks to the Marine Society! In the event of bad weather, Outings may be postponed to the next day, or cancelled, in which case you will receive a refund.

Bring a blanket or a chair and enjoy a family-friendly movie. The Salem Common Neighborhood Association will host this screening of the beloved film Toy Story.
