I recently had the opportunity to tour PEM's newest exhibit Santa at Salem Common and left with a whole new perception of Native Americans as individual artists in their own right. As a child and growing up I remember native art being presented more as 'craft' than art - possibly because it was not made as art, but as something to be used - a basket, a blanket, a beaded headdress, a tomahawk. PEM has changed all that with this exhibit.

Kids are invited to tthe Cape Ann Museum for two-hour "hands-on" class, where students will use a variety of artistic media to explore a central theme. During this open studio, kids will focus on the art of sculpture. This program is free and open to the public.

This year, we are reintroducing Lantern Tours, and visitors can learn about New England’s Christmas traditions while viewing the rooms subtly illuminated, as they were in Hawthorne’s day. Admission for Christmas & Lantern Tours is: adults $12.50, seniors 65 and older or AAA Members $11.50, children age 5-12 $7.50, children under five free, and member discount $2.00/ticket.
Fluff is a special treat in our house that we usually reserve for that wonderful combination of bread, peanut butter and fluff - aka the fluffernutter! What we never knew was that fluff is a product native to the North Shore and has been made in Lynn at the same factory since 1929.
