'Let's Go Fishing' is a Free Fun Family Day at the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge! This day log Family Event introduces kids and families to the world of fish and recreational fishing through fun hands-on activities and instruction. There will be a morning and afternoon session, making this a full day outing, so it's recommended that you pack a lunch and be ready to be outside all day!
Come to Halibut Point State Park to enjoy a wonderful sunset at the ocean's edge, and to witness a rare astronomical event with the Gloucester Area Astronomy Club. Weather permitting, Gloucester Area Astronomy Club will make their equipment available to the general public for viewing the 2012 Venus Transit. Come for a quick look or stay for the entire show! Either way you experience a rare natural phenomena in a beautiful waterfront setting! Setup begins at 5pm, and the transit will begin ~6:03pm.
An astronomical transit is when one atronomical body can be viewed passing in front of another astronomical body from a vantage point on Earth. We can view moons transiting Jupiter or other planets, and even watch transits of the space station across our own moon! On June 5, 2012 at sunset on the East Coast of North America the planet Venus will make its final transit across the face of the sun as seen from Earth until the year 2117. This is an exciting astronomical event that kids will love to experience, especially if they are into space and science!
Ipswich Museum Educator, Stacey Fraser-deHaan, hosts a family workshop complementing the summer exhibit, “Ipswich Women in the Arts". Participants will tour the Heard House and learn about its last resident, Alice “Elsie” Heard and her artwork. Then, workshop participants will attempt to copy works from the exhibit, just as Elsie and other female artists of the 19th and 20th century copied the works of famous painters.

Newburyport Public Library will host Jim Parks of Wingmasters for his 'World of Owls' presentation! Jim will be teaching children about magnificent owls and how they use their specialized powers of sight, hearing, and flight to survive in the wild. A variety of live owls will be at the show. The Hamilton Massachusetts Police Department is actively investigating a reported attempted abduction that occurred in the Town of Hamilton on the afternoon of May 7, 2012. The victim reported that a white van with possible blue markings on it pulled alongside the victim and motioned for the victim to come over. The victim ran into the woods and then returned home and reported the incident . The attached composite sketch was created by a police officer from information provided by the victim describing the operator of the van.
