The North Shore of Massachusetts has some of the most fertile soil in the United States and the farms of the region produce wonderful produce and other foods that you can buy directly at the farm, or it comes to you via a local Farmer's Market. Farmer's markets aren't just a place to get your favorite local seasonal foods, it s a community! The markets vary from town to town, and in addtion to the farm goods, you'll enjoy live music, craft and other vendors, and some even have activities to keep the kids busy while you shop!
Essex County Greenbelt Association will host the annual road cycle event to raise funds for conservation efforts on the North Shore! Cycling enthusiasts of all abilities can ride through some of Essex County’s most beautiful landscapes in this annual road cycle event to benefit local land conservation. Whether a seasoned road cyclist or a beginner, you can enjoy at your own pace one of three routes offered by Tour de Greenbelt: the 100 mile ride, a 50 mile ride, a shorter route (25 miles), and a Gravel Grinder Route, with off-road excursions into protected forests and reservations.
The Rowley Farmers Market is an open air market held on Sundays on the Rowley Town Common. There's always a great selection of fresh local produce, food stuffs and locally hand-made goods. Come pick up some great locally grown food, freshly baked bread by Faith Anne's Unique bread, specialty teas and herbals by Dawn's Herbal, locally made yarn from Spin a Yarn Farms, locally made maple syrup and honey from local bee keepers.
Come to the Rowley Town Common to enjoy a celebration of farms and farming. In addition to the the famers market, there will be working antique tractors will be on display for judging. Enjoy a live music performance at the common's Gazebo by the Then Again Band from 10 am - noon. Come check out the tractors, buy some great fresh produce, learn some Rowley History, support the local boy scouts who will be running a hot dog stand!
The Essex County Community Foundation (ECCF) manages charitable funds for both donors and nonprofits, awards grants, teaches best practices to nonprofits and their boards and convenes peer groups large and small to provide networking, higher education and economies of scale in Essex County Massachusetts. In their mission of community outreach, they have compiled an extensive list of available scholarships for student on the North Shore and Essex County.

Let's explore the woods, the salt marsh, and the streams to look for creatures like birds, fish, frogs, and more while we learn, play, and explore. We'll use our "science eyes" and "nature ears" and discover wildife together!
Join Sawyer Free Library, the Boston Bruins and Cradles to Crayons in their goal to collect new pajamas for kids in need! The Boston Bruins will be hosting their 13th Annual PJ Drive from February 1 - March 15. The drive will benefit Cradles for Crayons and DCF Wonderfund, two non-profits that ensure positive living conditions for children.
Owls are just beginning to nest at this time of year, and we're going out to Rough Meadows to find them! On our walk, we'll learn about the superpowers that owls use to survive the winter and raise their young. With some luck, we might stumble upon tracks, scat, or burrows -- evidence of other nocturnal animals.
