Travel the high seas musically with the North Shore Concert Band (a POPS Concert Band) featuring 25 musician members of the Boston Musician’s Association Local 9-535 AFM. We will be presenting a FREE spectacular concert for ALL AGES “The Sea Around Us” featuring Maritime Music including Sea Chanteys, the movie theme from “The Sea Hawk”, Disney’s “Under the Sea”, John Williams’ “Midway March” and more!

Exploring Salisbury’s Ancient Saltmarsh

Learn about the prehistoric oceanfront of the North Shore in Salisbury Massachusetts

Did you know that there’s a massive prehistoric saltmarsh peeking out of the sands at Salisbury Beach? Join MRWC’s John Macone on a low tide walk as we explore this fascinating remnant of a time when sea levels were much lower than today. We’ll also talk about the prehistoric oceanfront, the “paleo Merrimack River,” and the remnants of the last glacial age — all visible thanks to special maps that we’ll bring with us. The one-mile round trip hike will last about an hour. Be prepared to wade into the surf about 18 inches.

Ride the Rail Trail to New Hampshire

Bike the Rail Trail from the Merrimack river in Salisbury Massachusetts to the New Hampshire border.

Join us on a scenic bike ride starting at the Graf Rink lot on Low St. in Newburyport. We’ll go along the Clipper City Trail and it’s impressive trail art. We will then go over the Merrimac River to Salisbury, past salt marshes as we make our way to the NH border. Along the way, David Read will share how it fits into the greater Border to Boston Trail and the East Coast Greenway! We will meet next to the trail at the Graf Rink parking area on Low St. in Newburyport. The round trip is 10 miles on an all-paved surface.

Take a guided tour of Abbot Hall, Marblehead’s fourth town meeting hall, whose corner stone was laid in 1876, the nation’s Centennial year. Be inspired by the life-size “Spirit of ’76” painting, explore historical scenes in WPA murals painted in 1934, and more. A different program in Abbot Hall is offered the following weekend.
