Imagine, Sing, & Learn: Signs of Spring
These 90-minute sessions are for both you and your active preschooler! Each week, our structured activities will include original songs, movement, dramatic play, hand-on science, and a thematic snack. We'll give you coloring pages to take home and lots of fun materials via an electronic goody bag after each class. This session will focus on the looking for signs of Spring!
February Vacation Week Flyby: Creatures of the Deep
Beat the winter blahs during school break! Drop in for an hour or stay all day, either one or both days, for a vacation destination that suits your schedule. Participate in half-hour presentations at 11:00 am or 1:00 pm. We'll show you how to blend science and art based on the day's theme. It's free-flow learning for the whole family. This vacation week fly by will focus on life in the deep sea and the special creatures that live there!
To Bee or Not to Bee
We had such a great reaction to last year's program "The Role of the Honeybee in Our Environment" that we decided to offer another bee based program. This time, gardening guru Andi Ross will present her new program, "To Bee or Not to Bee." Landscaping to attract pollinators and other beneficial insects as well as birds and butterflies is not only trendy, its critical to our own survival. This lecture will explore what plants will attract beneficial wildlife to your gardens with slides of glorious gardens filled with wildlife.
Winter Beach Safari
Did you know that the moon snail uses its radula (a tongue-like rasping organ) to bore a small hole in a clam shell and then sucks out the flesh of its victim? Join us to learn about the fascinating lives of animals of the seashore and to discover the new treasures of animal shells that have washed up on the beach. Please dress for the weather. For all ages. Bring water. Sunscreen is advised.
Exploring Science Together: Minerals!
What makes a mineral a mineral? Find out in this hands-on and interactive program. Be a geologist for the day and learn how to identify minerals. Discover the secret properties that make some minerals truly unique. Participate in gallery explorations of our mesmerizing mineral collections. Investigate the different uses of minerals and even create your own mineral pigment artwork to take home! All activities are designed to be a fun and interactive experience for elementary age students and their families to participate in together.
