Get a jump start on your weekend with the Second Friday Program at the MIT Museum! Second Friday Programs are oriented for open exploration with opportunities to attend performances, demonstrations, and lectures through out the museum galleries. November's 2013's Second Friday will focus on food science. Featuring Kenji López-Alt, Chief Creative Officer of Seriouseats.com and members of Clover Food Lab.

Kestrel Adventures present Wild Science with Clayton Kern!

Kestrel Educational Adventures invites you meet at the 'Get Outside Center' and caravan to a nearby wild to explore, get muddy, go wading, or stay dry and just watch! Kestrel naturalist Clayton Kern will lead an adventure in the study of reptiles and amphibians. Each week, participants will learn to catch and identify animals and will participate in a wildlife study. Your findings will be displayed at the Kestrel Educational Adventures Get Outside Center in Gloucester!

World Fish Migration Day in Rockport

Eels travel 1000's of miles to spawn at Millbrook Park in Rockport

The public will be introduced to the eels of Millbrook, the site of Rockport’s first European-American residents and the center of their early industry. With the help of the Millbrook Meadow Conservancy and Rockport High School students, Eric Hutchins, of the NOAA Fisheries Restoration Center, will provide a tour of Rockport, Massachusett's historic Millbrook.

Boston Marathon Day at MOS

Learn about the science behind long distance endurance running at MOS

Whether you're running or spectating at the Boston Marathon this year, a visit to Museum of Science will teach you the latest in endurance sports science! The museum has created special exibits and hands-on activities that will allow visitors to explore the science behind long-distance endurance running.  Combined with presentations by special guests, visitors will gain a better understanding the forces experienced by the runner's body, and what training does to minimize their effects.

The Trustees of Reservations's invites families to learn about vernal pools in Manchester! Vernal pools are crucial to the survival of fairy shrimp, salamanders, and wood frogs. Join the The Trustees of Reservations on an exploration of the pools at Agassiz Rock reservation, and learn how you can certify and protect vernal pools. When vernal pools become certified, we can prevent development on and around them. This program is instructive to the participants, so you, too, can take home the techniques, forms, and methods to certify pools. It is targeted at families, so exploration is an important (and fun!) element in the program.

Lights, Camera, Nature!

Kids will learn about ecology, film-making and working in teams in this workshop

Lights, Camera, Nature! is a nature filmmaking class for kids ages 9-12! We will venture into the nearby wilds with a professional naturalist and a local filmmaker. Kids will explore the wildlife and capture the action on their cameras. When finished with shooting they will work in a small team to craft a fun story, then use simple editing software to create and edit their movie.
