Join us for an amazing summer evening at Appleton Farms as we explore the oldest method of cookery…..fire! Inspired by the farm’s very own wood-fired Earth Oven, this special workshop celebrates the season with signature recipes featuring the freshest farm ingredients along with all the skills needed to enjoy your own backyard grilling all summer long. Class begins in the farm kitchen with menu preparation, culinary tips, and instruction before heading outdoors to the kitchen patio for fun grilling, dining, and local beer!

Butter in the Barnyard

Butter in the Barnyard is for families and children 2-7 to meet our dairy herd at Appleton Farms.

Everyone loves rich and creamy butter, but have you ever discovered where butter begins?  Join us for a guided stroll around the farm learning all about our dairy, explore the milking parlor, enjoy a calf close encounter and end with butter making in the Carriage Barn. Recommended for ages 2-7.  Pre-registration is required as we can not accommodate a large group with drop-ins for this program. Registration is by the family- if you have 6 or more in your family, please register 2 families as we want to have enough butter ingredients for all. This program meets in our Carriage Barn. Parking is available at the Visitor Center.

First Peas to the Table

First Peas to the Table is a program for young garndeners at the Steven-Coolidge Place in North Andover.

Join the The Trustees of Reservations for a fun early-Spring gardening session for kid ages 6-9! Introduced with a reading of [amazon: 0807524522:inline] by Susan Grigsby, this fun gardening workshop for kids will teach your child about planting and maintaining a pea plant. Your child will get to plant their own pea seeds, decorate their pea pot, learn how to care for their plant, and create a journal to monitor their plant’s growth just like the students in the story.

From the Sugar Shack: Maple Culinary Class and Sugaring Tour

Come to Appleton Farms to learn about maple sugaring and then learn some great recipes using maple syrup in ipswich Massachusetts!

March is the time for sugaring in New England. Appleton keeps this very special tradition alive by tapping the farms beautiful maple trees and producing wood-fired, small-batch syrup. The first part of the workshop will include a leisurely walk around the farmstead to show how sap is harvested and collected. The tour will wrap up at our sugar shack so you can see (and smell!) the transformation of sap to syrup. You'll gather in the farm kitchen for the second part of the workshop, where chef Carolyn Grieco will teach how to make some of the most delectable maple syrup recipes. Workshop ends with a generous sampling of all our delicious maple dishes!

Valentine's Farm Dinner and Culinary Workshop

Spend a cozy evening with your sweetheart on the farm cooking up a delicious meal. Professional chef-instructor Carolyn Grieco will lead the class through the making of an intimate multi-course dinner in the state-of-the-art farm kitchen. Culinary tips and techniques will be covered as we prepare our dinner followed by a relaxing meal in the farmhouse dining room. Printed recipe booklet and indulgent chocolate take-treats to savor later! BYOB wine, champagne and beer is allowed.

Fun with Fiber Arts

Kids will learn about textile and fiber craftsmanship at Spencer Pierce Little F

Kids in grades 2-6 are invited to Spencer Peirce Little Farm to learn about textile artisanry! These monthly sessions are for students who are interested in or already working with fiber. Participants learn hand sewing, weaving, felting, knitting, dying wool, and carding/spinning wool from featured guest artists. All crafts and completed projects are taken home. Students also learn how to use a sewing machine.

Pumpkin Day at Cogswell's Grant

Pumpkin Day at Cogswell Grant is a wonderful fall afternoon event!

Celebrate the arrival of Fall. Enjoy hay wagon rides through the field in search of the perfect pumpkin, compete in a pumpkin pie-eating contest, do crafts, play games, and try cider pressing! Enjoy hot mulled apple cider and homemade pumpkin pie. The house is open for tours of one of the country's most celebrated collections of American antiques & folk art.
