Theater in the Open invites you to bring the family to Maudslay State Park! Bring the kids, the dog, and the picnic blanket out to beautiful Maudslay State Park! The third Saturday of every month, we will be joined by many of our good friends in the community to present storytelling, song, dance, fairytale-theater and a fun group activity, all right here in the park and all entirely free! Come make a friend, sing a song, take in some sun and get to know your park better.

Imagine, Sing, & Learn: Friends in the Garden

Come discover the wonder of the garden at Joppa Flats Education Center in Newbur

Preschoolers will Imagine, Sing the Learn about animal groups in this session! This parent/child program is designed for the creative, curious, and active preschooler. This is a 90 minute program for preschoolers and a grown-up all about t ladybugs and honey bees and how they are friends of the garden. Today “Miss Jan” had a full class and had so much fun singing songs, teaching about how insects help the garden and the farmers, and making bug puppets, and eating our “bugs in a bowl” snack made from fresh fruit: see attached photo for a quick sneak peek.

Harlequin Mother Goose: A Higgledy Piggledy Panto!

Theater in the Open starts their 2014 performance season with Harlequin Mother Goose: A Higgeldy Piggledy Panto! The year is 1764… And in the town of Olde Newbury, at Hoyt’s Lane and Main, there lives an old dame, whose name is Jane Crane! Please join us once again in ye olde Panto-land, where we’re counting on you to lend us a hand! You’ll meet an old woman who lives in a shoe, with Little Bo Peep and Little Boy Blue, but, wouldn’t you know it, the shoe rent is due, and the owner, Baron Bromfield…something something…fondue! Well, you get the idea. We’ll have an eight-foot-tall bird, a caper of clever clowns, and plenty to cheer for and boo at with the whole family this June in Maudslay State Park.

Rhododendron's are plentiful at Maudslay State Park in Newburyport!

Maudslay State Park has one of the best shows of flower bloom in the Commonwealth. Come and join the beginning of this cycle with a look at the two varieties of trilliums that bloom at Maudslay with the park interpreter. This month, we enjoy the bloom of Lily-of-the-Valley, Ghent/Exbury Azalea, Columbine, and Ox-eye Daisy. Wear comfortable shoes and appropriate warm clothes. Meet at the park headquarters at 74 Curzon Mill Rd

In every kind of weather, our favorite thing is to head outdoors to our spectacular local habitats! Each nature exploration will focus on the importance of a sense of place as we explore the ecology, sights, and sounds of our natural landscape. Wildlife, local and migrating birds, collecting techniques, and environmental awareness will be presented in a fun, energetic format that adults and children alike will enjoy.

Earth Port Film Festival 2014

The EarthPort Film Festival raises awareness of our rapidly changing climate.

The Firehouse Center for the Arts invites you to the 2014 Earth Port Festival - a collection of environmental short filmsfocusing on short films that create, discover, inspire, catalyze or document environmental action.

The intent of the festival is to demonstrate the power of film in communicating about important issues and is designed to include US and foreign, as well as student films.

Now in it’s 3rd year, the Earth Port Film Festival is well on it’s way to becoming an annual tradition! Films to be screened will be announced on Earth Day, April 22.

Proceeds from the Earth Port Film Festival will be used to support the training and development of Newburyport youth and adults in the art of communicating via film and video.
