Is there anything better than good focaccia? In this workshop, participants will learn the necessary skills to mix, shape, proof and bake this classic Italian staple. We will discuss and explore a variety of seasonal toppings, including tips and tricks to get a fluffy focaccia that is also packed with flavor. The main secrets? Stoneground local flour and technique! Class will end with warm focaccia to share and dough to take home.
Join The Trustees of Reservations at the farm for a Spring Quiche Culinary Workshop! In this workshop, participants will learn how to make a fluffy, rich quiche using seasonal vegetables from the farm and local dairy from our partners. Learn the secrets to a sturdy crust and a perfectly set interior. Class will end with quiche to share and a recipe packet to take home!
Families try their hand at maple sugaring at Appleton Farms! Join us for a fun, hands-on workshop that kids and adults will love. After exploring our maple sugaring tools, use our hand drill to practice tapping a tree! We’ll go through the whole process from maple sugar tree ID to boiling sap, and we’ll be sure to play along the way. Our knowledgable educator will answer your questions so you can be a sugar maker at home. We’ll finish up with a story– and, of course, a maple syrup sample!
Join The Trustees of Reservations to welcome the sugaring season! On weekends in March the Trustees will host a special menu of breakfast items made with or accompanied by our own maple syrup from the maple trees right here at Appleton Farms. Our Culinary Programs Team, led by Jess Wagoner, will create a delicious assortment of items which will incorporate our delicious maple syrup. It doesn’t get any more local or any more delicious than this.

In this workshop, we will use Appleton’s outdoor wood-fired oven to create delicious dishes inspired by what is fresh off the farm. Join Appleton Baker, Kami Turgeon, to learn the secrets to a perfectly flaky, sturdy pie crust and all the sweet details of making the perfect Apple Pie, with variations. Crumble top, lattice top, double crust, pie art (yes, that’s a thing!) – we’ll cover it all. Participants will enjoy hands-on experience making pie dough by hand and will take home a prepped pie, ready for the oven! Class will end with a shared pie a la mode.

The fourth annual Grow Spring! Expo, a celebration of local agriculture, horticulture, and environmental preservation, returns to Topsfield on March 18, 10 AM - 3 PM. Held at the Emerson Center, the Gould Barn, and The Commons, this year’s event is sponsored by the Topsfield Garden Club, the Topsfield Historical Society, The Commons, The Congregational Church of Topsfield and the Essex Agricultural Society.
