We've assembled a list of some of our favorite apple orchards north of Boston. Many offer pick-your-own apples and apples that are available for purchase by the pound. In addition to apple picking, many of the orchards offer trail walks, farm stands, baked goods, petting farms, country stores, hay rides and other child-friendly activities.
Fresh produce frozen fresh foods and baked goods. Kids can feed rabbits, goats, pigs, sheep and chickens, play on a large wooden train, watch a puppet show, or just play in the large sand box.
Maple Crest Farm is open to the public for in-season strawberries and blueberries, and will offer Christmas trees in 2011.
Long Hill Farm is a classic farm stand where the owners sell everything that is grown on site. Pick up some farm-fresh eggs and sticks of butter, as well as baked goods, ice cream, honey, maple syrup, and handmade crafts. No matter what you buy, you can be sure it’s local and its fresh.
Have you ever eaten a hot strawberry? There's nothing better than picking a sun-heated strawberry right off of the vine and popping it in your mouth! We're lucky enough to have a couple of strawberry plants around to satisfy the immediate urge, but if we're looking to make preserves to have on hand through the winter, we head out to one of many places on the North Shore to pick away to our hearts content. June is the month to harvest strawberries in Massachusetts so don't wait too long or you'll miss out!
