Kids and families will learn about the marsh habitat with ECGA and North Shore Nature Programs in this this fun, easy tromp across the marsh

Greenbelt and North Shore Nature Programs present Exploring the Salt Marsh! On this fun, easy tromp across the marsh, we'll look at the different plants, invertebrates, and birds that live there! This event is for families--children and adults of all ages welcome. Wear muck boots or shoes that can get wet and muddy and bring some water to drink. We recommend long pants, tucked into your socks or boots to keep ticks and other bugs from biting. Bathrooms are available on site (provided the CDC, state, and town regulations allow for public visitation at this date). FREE!

CFCE of the North Shore sponsors this fun, interactive program for preschool children and their caregivers, live and in person! Music ignites all areas of child development and skills for school readiness, including intellectual, social-emotional behavior, and language in overall literacy. It helps the body and mind work together. Music also helps with fine motor skills. Children who are exposed to music during early development are helped to learn the sounds and meanings of words. Registration is required – please call the Children’s Room at (781) 631-1481. This program is for ages 0-5 years old.

Tuesday Textiles: Basic Crochet

Kids learn the basics of crochet knitting each Tuesday at the Abbot Public Library in Marblehead Massachusetts

Children ages 7 plus are invited to this weekly workshop to learn how to create a foundation chain, make a single-crochet stitch, and finish a small square/rectangle. They will produce a piece of fabric that could be a coaster, potholder, etc. We provide the materials and registration is required – please call the Children’s Room at (781) 631-1481.

Youth Outdoor Winter Survival Skills Program

Kids and Tweens will learn outdoors survival skills at Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary!

This new three-day drop-off program is for youths who want to learn what it takes to survive in the wild. Each day will have a different theme around an outdoor skill. We will explore the sanctuary, look to our local wildlife for inspiration, and complete an outdoor skill challenge each day. Our last day will end with a carefully made campfire and toasted marshmallows!

Women's Self Defense Class

Learn how NOT to be a victim of assault at TOHP Burnham Library in Essex Massachusetts

This free, 2-hour class for high school students and adults is taught by John Kotch, a black belt instructor in Isshin-Ryu Karate The class is designed for women to learn how to protect themselves when faced with uncomfortable situations and how to avoid them in the first place. The instruction will include techniques used in Isshin-Ryu karate (known as a street, self-defense style based upon survival tactics) as well as those utilized by various martial arts styles, military and law enforcement personnel. The following will be covered: improving self-awareness; hand and foot techniques; hold-breaks, ground techniques and basic weapons defense.

Join the Friends of the Lynn Woods on this Trails & Sails walk through to Dungeon Rock to Stone Tower. Lynn Woods Reservation is the second largest municipal park in the greater Boston area. Visitors will have the opportunity to see these sites while walking in a beautiful urban forest, great for first time visitors and others who want to enjoy this historic park. Walk is on wide paths with plenty of room for enjoyment and does not require any previous hiking experience, good for all ages including children.
