Consider how the planet itself has changed over time. Investigate human ancestors through fossils. Meet Harvard scientists and hear about their research. Examine rare specimens, search for clues about the past in common fossils, and make your own models.
The weather is just ideal for all the fabulous children and family events and activities taking place on Boston's north shore this weekend beginning with the not to be missed The Merrimack River Eagle Festival. Spend the entire day or check the schedule and attend just one or two free events. You can even have a photograph made with a live Raptor!

I recently had the opportunity to tour PEM's newest exhibit Santa at Salem Common and left with a whole new perception of Native Americans as individual artists in their own right. As a child and growing up I remember native art being presented more as 'craft' than art - possibly because it was not made as art, but as something to be used - a basket, a blanket, a beaded headdress, a tomahawk. PEM has changed all that with this exhibit.

Shapeshifting is a common theme in today's fiction and science fiction, but did you know this theme has been present in Native American art, dance, music and story telling for millennia? PEM invites you to explore this concept of transformation through paintings, ceramics, textiles, photographs, videos and monumental installations drawn from collections in the United States, Canada and Europe!

This story of a twelve year old girl’s experience living on Hog Island during the winter brings together tales of the Essex landscape, the California gold rush and the Eastern Woodland Native Americans. This family program is fun for all ages and is free to the public.
Kids are invited to tthe Cape Ann Museum for two-hour "hands-on" class, where students will use a variety of artistic media to explore a central theme. During this open studio, kids will focus on the art of sculpture. This program is free and open to the public.

The term UpCycle is generally a reinvestment in the environment. This year, we are reintroducing Lantern Tours, and visitors can learn about New England’s Christmas traditions while viewing the rooms subtly illuminated, as they were in Hawthorne’s day. Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve excluded. Admission for Christmas & Lantern Tours is: adults $12.50, seniors 65 and older or AAA Members $11.50, children age 5-12 $7.50, children under five free, and member discount $2.00/ticket.
Fluff is a special treat in our house that we usually reserve for that wonderful combination of bread, peanut butter and fluff - aka the fluffernutter! What we never knew was that fluff is a product native to the North Shore and has been made in Lynn at the same factory since 1929. Today, fluff is sold throughout the United States and the world and has a dedicated following.
