The Children's Museum of New Hampshire is now taking registrations for new preschool and homeschool science classes that begin on March 7, 2013. Each 6-week session includes hands-on experiments, lessons and creative projects under the instruction of a museum educator, and classes are separated into pre-school grouping and homeschooled children ages 5½-9.
The Museum of Science hosts a special planetarium presentation geared to engage kids ages 6 and under in the world of Astronomy! Elmo and Big Bird team up to introduce young children to the start in Big Bird's Adventure: One World, One Sky at the Hayden Planetarium in Boston! Follow along with Big Bird, Elmo, and their friend from China, Hu Hu Zhu, as they take you on a journey of discovery to learn about the Big Dipper, the North Star, the Sun, and the Moon.
Families are invited to share the love in February by attending the second annual Very, Very Valentine’s Dance at the Children’s Museum of New Hampshire. Kids and adults will enjoy an evening together at the museum celebrating Valentine's Day with dancing, treats and fun crafts and activities!
The Children's Library at invites kids to Friendship Yoga with Miss Betsy. This program is for kids ages 6-10, combining yoga poses, music and stories to promote friendship, harmony, acceptance, relaxation and fun! Betsy Reid is a library assistant at Peabody Institute Library anb a certified children'syoga instructor. Come enjoy a peaceful morning at the Sawyer Free Library!
Our afternoon starts off with self-guided activities, challenges, or puzzles that lead us to our topic for the day. As a group, we'll observe, investigate, and compare wildlife, their adaptations, and the changes that they undergo in autumn. Participants may play the role of entomologist, ornithologist, astronomer, or even glaciologist throughout this series. Each experience will leave your young naturalist eager for the next session. And we always end with a tasty, thematic treat that the participants make! This week we'll learn about the wonders of the Arctic.

Free and open to the public, this program is designed for toddlers through age six and their caregivers. What do you like to do in the fall? What do you think animals are doing? Before winter, most animals are very busy getting ready for winter. What are they doing? How does your heart rate compare to a woodchucks? Why can’t people hibernate? In this class we are going to learn how creatures develop survival strategies, play a migration game, avoid predators chipmunk style, and test our skills at camouflage, hibernation and keeping warm!
Saturday Jan 26 is the Super Bowl of Birding at Joppa Flats – a birding competition to find the most birds on Plum Island in 24 hours! Which birds had the most frequent flyer miles? Which birds were the most elusive? How did THAT bird end up on the East Coast? All the answers will be revealed and we’ll also play games, practice with scopes and binoculars and make some take home bird treats!

The M is for Museum museum-themed programs are led by museum educators and designed to introduce young children to the world of museums in a fun and interactive setting. Pre-school age and up.
Need an excuse to get out of the house this winter? Drop by our Nature Center on select Thursday mornings in January and observe the wildlife activity in our bird garden. You will be treated to close looks at squirrels, rabbits, and the wide variety of winter birds that visit our feeders. We will provide hot drinks, a few tasty treats, and a staff member to help you identify everything you see. No matter how cold the temperatures may be outside, it's always warm inside! Children welcome.
