Salem Common
Salem Common began as the town's common pasture land, to which each Salem citizen could bring a cow to graze.
The Common is now Salem's large, pleasant central park, with the Hawthorne Hotel at its southwest corner.
MA Route 1A passes right along the edge of the Common via the streets named Washington Square North and Washington Square West.
The Dorothy Talbot Rink
The Dorothy Talbot Rink is home to the Gloucester High Fishermen Boy's Hockey Program and the Rockport Vikings.
Public Skating is offered and begins mid-November and ends in mid-April. Several public skating sessions are available each week. Call for times.
Skate rentals available.
Available for birthday parties and special events.
The Learn to Skate program, for ages 3-7 teaches kids about balance, stride, and stopping. Skates, helmets & gloves or mittens are required. Knee and Elbow pads are recommended.
Harold Parker State Forest
Harold Parker State Forest, which lies in Andover, North Andover, North Reading and Middleton, comprises just over 3,000 acres of Central Hardwood-Hemlock-White Pine type of forest. The forest is twenty miles north of Boston and within one hour's drive of three million people. Recreational opportunities include hiking, mountain biking, fishing, hunting, horseback riding, camping and picnicking.

What is the winter season without ice skating? Grab your skates and helmets and get ready, the ice skating season in underway. For kids and adults it is an accessible and fun way for everyone to work off some energy and have a great time in the process.
