M is for Museum: Warmth of the Fireside

Discover how people kept warm in the winter long ago as you and your child enjoy a story about winter on the farm, sip warm cocoa, and make a mitten craft with museum educators. The M is for Museum museum-themed programs are led by museum educators and designed to introduce young children to the world of museums in a fun and interactive setting. Pre-school age and up.

Train Time 17 Model Train Exhibition

Train Time 17 at Wenham Museum is fun for the whole family!

Have a “rail” fun time watching trains traversing bridges, disappearing into tunnels, and stopping to pick up tiny passengers along the way as we celebrate the art of miniature railroading. Train fans will delight in two room-size model train layouts with engines racing around a 400+ square foot O-Gauge track reminiscent of holiday department store displays and a 1920s Standard Gauge layout.

Pastrana Tapestries at PEM

Come to PEM to see a massive medieval tapestry thatover 36 feet long!

Peabody Essex Museum is host to one of the finest examples of Gothic tapestry in existence now through the end of 2012!  Come see this set of four massive, 36 foot-long tapestries that depict the North African military campaigns of Portugal's King Alphonse V during the crusades in the 15th Century.  Experience medieval life through this tapestry with depictions of knights, ships, fortresses, weaponry, armour, attire and other details of the period. The four tapestries were recently restored to their finest condition in centuries, and are presented at PEM as an immersive, two-gallery experience before returning to Spain.

In celebration of the opening of the new Arts of Korea Gallery and Korean Buddhist Paintings exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA), the Museum is hosting Korea Foundation Day on Friday, November 16, from 3 p.m. to 9:45 p.m.

Activities include tours of the Arts of Korea Gallery in Korean and English, a talk by artist Kang Ik-Joong, and musical performances by the percussion group Gong Myoung. These programs are free with Museum admission and children 17 and younger are free.

The Lorax, star of the Dr. Seuss book by the same name, will be visiting the Children’s Museum to greet young fans and help promote the love of reading.At the Books Alive event, museum staff will be reading “The Lorax” by beloved author Dr. Seuss throughout the day. The friendly costumed character Lorax will be popping in and out to greet children, exchange a hug or high-five, and pose for photos. There will also be a variety of Seuss-inspired literacy, math and creative activities for children in the museum’s large classroom.
