Peabody Essex Museum is excited to have families come see their new space at the museum designed just for innovation! The Maker Lounge is dedicated to creativity and innovation through hands-on exploration with technology, materials and ideas. It builds on PEM's tradition of bringing together new and inspiring objects from around the world and celebrating creative expression through human ingenuity. Tackle a design challenge or tinker with all kinds of materials from circuits to cardboard saws. Both energizing and relaxing, the space has music, iPads and universal phone chargers.
Drop-in for our yearly holiday wrapping paper workshop. This year we will be joined by Regina from the Boston Paper Collective as we learn Suminagashi, the ancient Japanese art of paper marbling. Make your own Suminagshi paper and see some examples of Ebru (Turkish paper marbling) as show above.

Come to their Salem location with your children, where they will have professional artisans from the North Shore Clay Studio cast their footprints and hand prints in clay. Names, dates, or any other text can be painted on the casts when they are glazed. These tiles make great gifts for Father's Day or any occasion! Slow Art Day is a worldwide celebration of art that encourages people to look at art SLOWLY. At PEM the goal is to get "inspired not tired." We'll give families fun suggestions and sketching activities to make looking at art slowly a great sharing experience.
In partnership with the Imagination Foundation, the Phoenix School will host its annual Cardboard Challenge at Armory Park in Salem. Join in the worldwide celebration of creativity and imagination where everyone is challenged to design and create using cardboard and recycled materials. The Phoenix School Cardboard Challenge is part of a global Day of Play around the world. The Phoenix School’s Global Cardboard Challenge is an opportunity for kids, parents, students of all ages, adults -- everyone!-- to join in the FUN!
Make a lantern out of a plastic bottle and tissue paper and then bring it to Santa's arrival at the Hawthorne Hotel and procession down the Essex Street Pedestrian Mall to the Tree Lighting in Lappin Park. Plastic bottles provided or bring your own! SCAM will also be collecting bottles throughout the week, so bring your recycleable plastic bottles down for us!

Special guest instructor and children’s book illustrator, Katy Bratun, will be leading this family friendly craft starting at 1:00pm at the NPS Visitor Center in Salem.
