Visit Appleton Farms' sugaring operation and learn about making maple sugar syrup!

Maple Season is here! This special program for ages 3 and up will focus on the magic of maple from start to finish. We will discover this tradition by observing trees, tasting sap, learning the tools involved, and finally, tasting the sweet product. We will make sure to have time to visit our barnyard animals!

Come to Appleton Farms for a full morning of maple sugaring fun in Ipswich Massachusetts

Join The Trustees of Reservations to welcome the sugaring season!  On weekends in March the Trustees will host a special menu of breakfast items made with or accompanied by our own maple syrup from the maple trees right here at Appleton Farms. Our Culinary Programs Team, led by Jess Wagoner, will create a delicious assortment of items which will incorporate our delicious maple syrup. It doesn’t get any more local or any more delicious than this.

Maple Syrup Pancake Breakfast at Waldorf School

Enjoy a pancake breakfast with local maple syrup at Waldorf School at Moraine Farm in Beverly Massachusetts

Waldorf School at Moraine Farm invites families to enjoy a pancake breakfast topped off with maple syrup collected by the Waldorf School at Moraine Farm Science in Nature program and evaporated with our partners at Valley View Farm in Topsfield. This culminating event will be an opportunity to come together in celebration of our second successful maple sugaring season. We will both enjoy the fruits of our labor and learn about the art and science of maple sugaring. This event is open to current parents, prospective parents and their guests.
Cost: $5 per person, maximum $20 per family.

Scout Maple Sugaring Jamboree at IRWS

The maple sugaring jamboree is a chance for scouts to earn a maple sugaring badge at the Ipwich River Wildlife Sanctuary

Bring your troop and the whole family to meet our maple trees, tour the sugarhouse, try a taste of our sweet syrup, and participate in winter games and activities. Try your hand at using real sugaring tools at the tree-tapping station, warm up and toast marshmallows by the campfire, and participate in a snow creature building contest where the winner gets a free bottle of syrup! Our dress-like-a-lumberjack photo booth can capture your sweet memories and each scout will go home with a special maple sugaring jamboree badge.

Ancient Grains: Culinary Workshop

Join Carolyn Grieco at this Ancient Grains workshop at Appleton Farms in Ipswich Massachusetts

Come to Appleton Farms for this very special workshop with chef Carolyn Grieco as we explore the wonderful world of ancient grains and how to incorporate them in your daily cooking. Locally grown and milled grains are popping up everywhere and their culinary popularity continues to grow. We’ll explore many different varieties of grains along with their flavor & texture profiles, nutritional benefits, and how to handle them in the kitchen. We’ll prepare unique recipes incorporating some of these grains, and enjoy a wonderful dinner at the end of the evening. Class includes hands-on cooking with professional chef instruction and printed recipes. BYBO beer & wine allowed.

Maple Sugaring at Breakheart Reservation

Come to Breakheart Reservation SaugusMA  to learn about maple sugaring.

Breakheart Reservation is hosting maple sugaring tours of the reservation. Come see how maple sap is collected - one drip at a time - and processed into a naturally sweet sugar and syrup.  These tree to table tours are fun and informative and kids will love learning about this unique tradition that was taught to European settlers by native Americans upon their arrival in the New World!  Admission helps fund the reservations' maple sugaring program!
