Mother's Day is a celebration at Peabody Essex Museum ! Enjoy Mother's Day Brunch at the museum catered by Hawthorne Catering and served in the Garden Restaurant overlooking the Asian Garden. After your meal visit the galleries and Museum Shop, where you can exchange your brunch voucher for a complimentary gift for Mom. General Admission to PEM is included with brunch pricing.
Come to the Abbot Public Library May 9 – June 2 to step into Marblehead's own version of the Van Gogh's Starry Night. This inspired theme will be the backdrop for this year’s Marblehead High School's Annual Senior Art Show. The show will exhibit different media, from photographs to busts to paintings, all created by the students of the class of 2016. Many of the pieces have won awards in art competitions and are truly spectacular to look upon. The opening night reception will be on Monday, May 16, from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm in the Abbot's art gallery.
Grades 6-12: We'll bring the paint, brushes, and canvas, you bring the inspiration! Join us in the Program Room for an afternoon of art, starting at 3:30. Paint whatever you like, and keep your final creation!
What makes painting different from other art forms? Find out! Wear some old clothes and try painting at easels the museum will set up in Burnham Hall. Simple instructions, challenges, and materials will be provided.
Celebrate Harvest Season at the Sargent House Museum! Come with friends and family to discover some of Gloucester's History through art and community, enjoy seasonal foods and cider with old friends and new during open hours. Tour this historic landmark, one of Gloucester's firts grand homes featuring the beautiful craftsmanship, architecture and style of an era long gone by. You'll also hear a bit of the inspiring story of the original owner, women's rights advocate Judith Sargent Murray (1751-1820).
We are all intrigued by the elusive owls. We'll learn about these creatures and have the opportunity to observe owls mounts and touch feathers, followed by a walk outside to look and listen for owls. Upon our return, we will let Mother Nature be our inspiration and create owl art from a variety of mediums at different work stations.
Kids in grades 2-6 are invited to Spencer Peirce Little Farm to learn about textile artisanry! These monthly sessions are for students who are interested in or already working with fiber. Participants learn hand sewing, weaving, felting, knitting, dying wool, and carding/spinning wool from featured guest artists. All crafts and completed projects are taken home. Students also learn how to use a sewing machine.
Ipswich Museum invites kids and their families to a Gingerbread House Workshop! The holidays wouldn’t be complete without a gingerbread house! Our hands-on, no-baking family class will supply each adult and child with all the materials needed to build your own candy decorated gingerbread house. All ages! We suggest adult assistance for children under 8. Cost: $45 per family (this includes everything you need to go home with a completely decorated house).
