See the school and wonderful playground, speak with teachers and students, and say hello to our animal friends (chickens, turtles and fish, currently). This high tide is royalty! Here’s your chance to see the king….tide that is. Join us for a hike to learn about extreme high tides, known as king tides, which are happening more often due to environmental change. These extreme tides have a variety of impacts on coastal infrastructure, including restricted access on low lying roads, flooded buildings, and impacts of erosion, debris, and salt-water intrusion/damage. The king tide also provides us with a window to the future, illustrating what an average high tide might look like in a few decades due to sea level rise. On this hike you will learn what causes king tides, see the tidal impacts first-hand, and learn what The Trustees are doing to increase the coastal resilience of our treasured coastal environments.
Bring the energy of the season into your home or onto your door with our Fall Wreath Workshop, partnered with bioregional herbalist and foraging instructor, Iris Weaver. In this hands-on workshop, create a 8” to 12” unique wreath using foraged dried plant stalks, pine cones, nuts, acorns, and more! Bring a glue gun (preferably one with a trigger), plenty of glue sticks, and a box to carry home your creation All other materials will be provided.
This is a special Haloween themed Befriend the Barnyard. Our barn will be decorated for halloween and our educators will be in costume. We encouge you to come in your costumes and join the fun. Children will leave with a Haloween treat.
Essex Shipbuilding Museum wants to celebrate the Fall with friends and neighbors. Come enjoy fun, food, drink and a special race on the river - The Apple Armada! Fun for all ages! This family friendly event is a great introduction to Essex culture.
Come to the Lynn Museum for a special family-friendly fall fundraiser to support the mission of the Lynn Museum & Arts Center! Get into the fall spirit with this outdoor event featuring free carnival-style games, facepainting, touch a truck, hands-on activities, youth-friendly museum tours, and raffle prizes for all ages. Food will be available for purchase, and there will be a beer garden for those 21+.
Waring School invites families to their upcoming Open Houses on Saturday, October 19 or Monday, November 11, 2024. This is the perfect opportunity to meet the Admissions Team, take a guided tour of the beautiful campus, and experience firsthand how Waring cultivates a lifelong love of learning.
Join the Maudslay State Park interpreter on a guided tour for a unique experience to view the mansion and daughter’s picturesque house sites, both have open vistas overlooking the Merrimack River! Additionally, archival photos of the estate will be shared during the walk. For ages 8 years & up.
Join us on a scenic bike ride starting at the Graf Rink lot on Low St. in Newburyport. We’ll go along the Clipper City Trail and it’s impressive trail art. We will then go over the Merrimac River to Salisbury, past salt marshes as we make our way to the NH border. Along the way, David Read will share how it fits into the greater Border to Boston Trail and the East Coast Greenway! We will meet next to the trail at the Graf Rink parking area on Low St. in Newburyport. The round trip is 10 miles on an all-paved surface.
Have you heard the expression, “one person’s trash is another person’s treasure”? Become an archaeologist at the historic John Balch house with this program focusing on excavations performed at the house in 1998. Examine a selection of objects found during the dig, find out about what they were used for and when they were using it, then get your hands dirty by digging in a makeshift pit yourself! Tours of the house are offered throughout the day.
