The Trustees of Reservations's invites families to learn about vernal pools in Manchester! Vernal pools are crucial to the survival of fairy shrimp, salamanders, and wood frogs. Join the The Trustees of Reservations on an exploration of the pools at Agassiz Rock reservation, and learn how you can certify and protect vernal pools. When vernal pools become certified, we can prevent development on and around them. This program is instructive to the participants, so you, too, can take home the techniques, forms, and methods to certify pools. It is targeted at families, so exploration is an important (and fun!) element in the program.

In 2013, a group of local moms, in partnership with the Winner’s Circle Running Club organized this running/walking event to support the One Fund and the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing. Last year this event raised $15,000 for the One Fund … let’s do it again! If you are a runner/walker, sign up now to support the cause. There's a special Kids Run at 10am followed by the Charity Run at 10:30am. Event day registration starts at 8:30 AM at Cashman Park.

This week's program will focus on strange animal partners in nature like sharks and fish, hermit crabs and anemones and even chipmunks and weasels! We’ve got great activities planned like “Who’s Your Partner?” and “Make a Mad Lib!” and our craft is a take home sea creature photo holder! In this week's program, kids will learn about naturally-occurring patterns and talk about some of nature's best designers and architects! Kids will learn about how bees achieve the perfect hexagons found in their honey combs, how much structural design goes into a beaver dam and how animals and other creatures use naturally occurring patterns found throughout our natural environment. Our afternoon starts off with self-guided activities, challenges, or puzzles that lead us to our topic for the day.

The day-long community event promises residents a day of winter fun following a schedule of events similar to years past, including the Fifth Annual Human Dog Sled Race!
