BOAT CAMP Nature School Bash Fundraiser

Help Raise funds for Newburyport's Boat Camp Nature School at their auction bash

Merrohawke Nature School of Newburyport is will have it's annual fundraiser silent auction bash at the Black Cow Newburyport to celebrate a turn in the season as animals start their migrations back to the North Shore and awaken from their Winter slumbers! Proceeds from the auction will go to fund programs at Merrohawke Nature School.

Afterschool at Joppa: Visit to the Twilight Zone

Kids will learn about the ocean's twighlight zone after school at Joppa Flats

This week's program will be about the ocean's twilight zone! Known as the mesopelagic layer in the ocean, the twilight zone starts around 660 feet, where sunlight is very faint and continues to get progressively darker and colder to a depth of 3300 feet. There are many creatures that use this zone as their habitat, many that are bio luminescen, have large eyes for seeing weel in darkness or have form factors that seem outright alien! Come learn about this strange part of the sea and the creatures that live there.

Learn how to identify fish using their DNA at Maritime Gloucester.

Unleash your inner detective with this unique opportunity. Get your hands dirty using state of the art technology to characterize a fish by its DNA and protein structures. Work with our own Mary Kay Taylor, and with Emily Chandler of the Large Pelagics Research Center (http://tunalab.org) to learn the latest techniques for identifying and labeling fish meat. This is our newest marine science class. Due to inquiries it has been opened to curious adults.
