Meet the Author

Join the effort to protect our endangered right whale. Hear local children’s author Angela Kakabeeke share her new book, Whale Alert!, about the critically endangered North Atlantic right whale. Angela is excited to work with Women Working for Oceans (W2O) and the New England Aquarium in sharing this story. In addition to the reading, there will be educational hands-on activities for children and adults, including whale science kits that reveal the unique characteristics of the right whale and the hazards that they encounter in our blue backyard.

Rachel Simmons, author and educator, presents 'How Self-Compassion Makes You Braver, Happier & More Successful' at Tower School. Research shows that self-criticism heightens anxiety and lowers motivation, yet most people believe it’s the key to success. In this workshop, learn a researched, three-step practice to deal with setbacks, manage difficult feelings, and quiet the voice of a destructive inner critic.

On Thursday, November 2 at 7 p.m. Brookwood School proudly welcomes best-selling author Dr. Lawrence J. Cohen, Ph.D., a licensed psychologist specializing in play therapy and parenting skills and author of The Opposite of Worry: The Playful Parenting Approach to Childhood Anxieties and Fears, to share simple, effective strategies that build connection through fun, play, and empathy. Whether it's the monster in the closet or the fear that arises from new social situations, school, or sports, anxiety can be especially challenging for children.
