I recently had the opportunity to tour PEM's newest exhibit Santa at Salem Common and left with a whole new perception of Native Americans as individual artists in their own right.  As a child and growing up I remember native art being presented more as 'craft' than art - possibly because it was not made as art, but as something to be used - a basket, a blanket, a beaded headdress, a tomahawk.  PEM has changed all that with this exhibit.

Do your children know about UPCYCLING? UpCycling is the process of converting excess materials into new, limited edition products of higher quality and environmental value. The term UpCycle is generally a reinvestment in the environment. In the simplest terms, upcycling is the practice of taking something that is thrown away and repurposing it into something of greater utilization and intrinsic worth in its second life, which is what LOOPTWORKS is all about.

Fluff is a special treat in our house that we usually reserve for that wonderful combination of bread, peanut butter and fluff - aka the fluffernutter! What we never knew was that fluff is a product native to the North Shore and has been made in Lynn at the same factory since 1929.  Today, fluff is sold throughout the United States and the world and has a dedicated following.
