Tri for the YWCA

Newburyport YWCA's Annual Triathlon is perfect for people of all skills.

Every body can do it... Join us for a fun start to Tri season. Celebrate the 10th annual ywca tri in partnership with the Tough Warrior Princesses and the North of Boston Cancer Resource.  This is a unique, mostly indoor event featuring a 10-minute swim in our indoor lap pool, a 25-minute cycle on a state of the art spin bike, and a 1.5 mile run outdoors on the picturesque Clipper City Rail Trail.  Create a team of friends or family!  One biker, one swimmer, one runner or any combination. Space is limited!

Newburyport Education Foundation American Music Festival 2016

The Newburyport Education Foundation hosts the Summertime Family Music Festival at Spencer Peirce Little Farm. Enjoy music, vintage baseball, and farm activites featuring decades of American music.This festival celebrates everything from traditional songs to bluegrass, funk, folk, and beyond. Come for the music and stay for the whole day: Watch Vintage Base Ball played by 1861 rules. See tractors and farm equipment spanning the last eighty years. Try your hand and win prizes at corn husking.

Since 2011, the Ukulele Melee has provided an exciting yearly venue for Boston-area ukulele enthusiasts of all ages to share ideas, learn, perform, play together, & have fun! Each year we bring new musicians, workshops, jams, vendors, raffles, ukulele auctions, and strum alongs to help you learn and grow in your ukulele education and appreciation.  Come for an exciting day of music and aloha, made possible by the students and community of Hamilton, MA in which the festival is now held.

Get outside with your family for some fresh air and to experience the beauty of the sanctuary. A Mindful Nature Experience incorporates elements of mindfulness, forest bathing, ayurveda, and yoga to connect mind and body in community with the outdoors, reinvigorate your senses, and deeply immerse you in the healing power of nature. As a family, awaken your bodies with easy, flowing exercises, and use mindful breathing techniques to connect with and offer gratitude for the natural world. Walk with awareness to immerse deeply in nature, explore your senses using various sensory techniques that awaken curiosity, and find your own personal sit spot to meditate as one with nature.

Family Snowshoe & Winter World Hike

If it ever snows, this will be a great exploration of IRWS on snowshoes!

Have you ever wanted to try snowshoeing but didn't know where to start? Join us for a leisurely snowshoe hike through the sanctuary. Along the way, we will search for animal tracks and keep our eyes open for wildlife. If you don't own snowshoes, we'll provide them for you. Snow or not, we will enjoy a wonderful winter hike and end with some hot chocolate to warm up!

Learn to Skate and Play

Youth Hockey, Cape Ann Youth Hockey, Gloucester Rink Learn to Skate

Boys and girls from the ages 3-16 can learn to skate and develop hockey skills in Cape Ann Youth Hockey's various programs. Cape Ann Learn-to-Skate program is held at Gloucester's Talbot Rink and provides crates for the kids learning to skate for the first time. Kids will be amazed at how quickly they learn balance, turns, and the skills they acquire to raise themselves up after a fall. Coaches are there to support, care, and teach your children to skate. The rink is divided into three sections and as children progress, they begin playing mini games, and are introduced to basic hockey skills.

Fall Colors Paddle for Families

Come see fall foliage from a different perspective on the Fall Foliage Paddle.

Mid-October is an excellent time to take in the spectacular and stunning colors provided by the Ipswich River. The riverside silver maples will be showing off their yellow-gold, while the cattails and other marsh grasses will provide beautiful greens and browns, all set against the winding blues and blacks of the river. Have your family join us for a few hours as we explore this pristine habitat via a gentle paddle in canoes. With a little luck we might encounter a beaver, otter, or muskrat as well!
