Park
Cressy's Beach
Located in Stage Fort Park, this beach overlooks outer Gloucester harbor with views of Eastern Point. The beach is a combination of sand and rock, and is relatively quite in comparison to the local sandy beaches.
Warren-Weld Woodland
This property is part of the larger Manchester-Essex Woods. The property protects the headwaters of the Essex River, which is a mere trickle at this location, and is part of a wildlife corridor that runs south from the salt marshes of Essex into the Manchester-Essex Woods.
Parker River National Wildlife Refuge
Parker River National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1942 to provide feeding, resting, and nesting habitat for migratory birds. The refuge occupies 4,662 acres on the southern two-thirds of Plum Island, a barrier island on the Northeast coast of Massachusetts, and is administered by the US Fish and Wildlife Service, a federal agency. Parker River is one of over 540 Refuges in the National Wildlife Refuge System, a national network of lands dedicated to "wildlife first."
J.C. Phillips Nature Preserve
This Nature reserve is split between Beverly an Wenham. This nature area is a great place to walk, run and hike. The preserve borders Wenham Lake, which supplies the drinking water for the cities of Beverly and Salem and for a portion of the town of Wenham. As you walk on the property you can view the tribute to Dom Manzoli, a dedicated citizen advocate who, for over three decades, fought to protect the water quality of Wenham Lake and its watershed.
Essex National Heritage Area
Designated in 1996 by the U.S. Congress, the Essex National Heritage Area covers the 500 square miles of eastern Massachusetts that lies north of Boston. It's not one location, but thousands of historical sites. Not a mile-long beach, but miles and miles of intact landscapes and glistening coastal areas. Not one story and tradition, but lifetimes of rich experiences that chronicle the history of our region, and our nation.
