Decorated pumpkins may be left to be submitted into the MFF's Pumpkin Illumination on 10/24 (for a chance to win prizes!). Admission include everything needed to decorate a pumpkin! Spring is coming! Did you know that in many cultures all over the world, spring is celebrated with colored eggs? Join us to celebrate on Saturday, March 14, from 9:30am - 12:30pm. We will needle felt colorful eggs using soft, unspun wool fleece. Elizabeth Stubbs, a Waldorf early childhood teacher and artist will provide gentle, hands-on guidance to attendees. All skill levels welcome. $40 workshop fee includes instruction and materials and everyone will bring home at least 3 beautiful eggs. This workshop will take place at Waldorf School at Moraine Farm. Limited to 12 attendees, register soon! Adults only. We will also enjoy warm drinks and goodies and friendly conversation.
Today we'll learn about one of nature's tastiest treats: maple syrup. We'll discover how to distinguish a sugar maple from all the other trees in the forest and tap one to collect the sap. After a visit to the sugarhouse, we'll know how sap is converted into syrup and try some on our very own pancakes. We'll see who can tell the difference between store-bought syrup and the real stuff!
The Stage 284 offers a fun filled vacation week of training: acting, voice, and movement for kids ages 7-15. Our top-notch team incorporates acting, singing and dance training, blocking and theater terminology into each workshop developing the skills necessary to succeed on stage in our Youth Company or Main Stage Programs.
Cape ann Art Haven has a great selection of art focused morning workshops during February Vacation in addition to their regular classes and open studio in the afternoons. Kids can take part in morning sessions, afternoon sessions or stay for a full day!
As backyard birds head south for the winter, let's give them a proper send-off with a fun, free family event that features bird banding demonstrations, interactive games about bird migration, and lots of table-top science. Younger children will enjoy our crafts and games, while older children can get involved in physics and engineering fun! Preregistration is not required. children must be accompanied by an adult. Family presentations will be offered at half-past each hour.
It's nice to have GPS, but do you know how to read a map or use a compass? What happens if you're out on the trail and your GPS malfunctions or the batteries die? Are you instantly lost? Join Mass Audubon for a guided map-and-compass treasure hunt around the sanctuary. Bring your own compass or use one of ours and learn how to find north, orient yourself, count paces, and use the map and compass to find your way. After some basics, we'll hit the trails and use the new skills learned to search for some hidden natural treasures. No experience necessary. This program is a good introduction to orienteering for the whole family.
