Eco-Art: Flower Power
Create a decoupage flower container for your summertime arrangements, and then explore the sanctuary to look for wildflowers and learn the important role butterflies and bees play in producing new flowers. We'll use hand lenses and nets to observe insects and share a butterfly story in the meadow.
Pumpkin & Mask Decorating at Artists’ Row
Join the artists on Artists’ Row for Salem Mayor's Night Out and a free fun activity: Tap into your creative spirit and decorate a Halloween mask or a wooden pumpkin round. All materials are provided but first come, first serve and one per child. This event is brought to you by the City of Salem Public Space Initiative, Artists of Artists’ Row, Salem Main Streets and Creative Salem.
Bowl Painting at Essex Shipbuilding Museum
The Open Door invites you to bowl painting session at the Essex Shipbuilding Museum! Bring the kids to come paint bowls for the annual Open Door Empty Bowl Circus in May where painted bowls will be auctioned off to the highest bidder!

Keep what you make and be creative using paints, scrap wood, branches and more!
Pumpkin Carving at Art Haven
Celebrate Halloween with us! Carve a pumpkin to take home for halloween, have your face painted and take a Halloween Photos too. This event is made possible by the generous support of the Institution for Savings for providing pumpkins for this year’s Pumpkin Carving Party. Special thanks to Wolf Hill for their help.
Autumn Art Explorations: Nature Mobile
Join Artist and Art Teacher Mary Ann McCurdle for one or more of these new family art classes this fall. Each class will begin with a short story, followed by a nature walk, and finish up with a related art project as we celebrate the beauty of the season.
Candy Construction Challenge
If you can build it, you can eat it. Join us for a sweet challenge of building creations with candies, cookies, and more. Each teen will be given “building materials” and creations to make in a timed challenge. Creations will be scored by judges, with a first, second, and third place winner based on performance. For grades 6-12.
Mood Door Hangers
Tired? Happy? Hungry? Your door hanger will be able to say it all. Join us and create different emojis you can swap out with Velcro! All ages welcome but best suited for kids over 4.
Saturday Morning Nature Secrets: Animals in Snow
Let's celebrate winter as we look at this beautiful season through storybooks, art, and music. Weather permitting, we'll take a riverside walk in Joppa Flats' backyard and experience the frozen artistry of the season. Later we'll create artwork that reminds us of the winter joys we found together.
