New England Aquarium Tock Tank visits Lanesville Community Center in Gloucester

Do you know what a sea urchin eats, and what eats a sea urchin? The answer to that question and more is coming to a Traveling Tidepool Program at the Lanesville Community Center! Pet a sea star. Meet a lobster. Cradle a hermit crab in the palm of your hand. Adults and children can literally get their hands wet at the Edge of the Sea's traveling tidepool. Aquarium educators are present to answer questions.

Cape Ann Capers: Beachcombers

Explore the beach and shore habitats of Mass Audubon's Eastern Point Reserve

Enjoy a morning at the beach during low tide and discover the living wonders of the rocky shore and sandy coastline. We will look for crabs, starfish, shorebirds, and other seashore animals. Explore the wrack line and sandy beach to compare and sort the natural materials and seaweeds that have washed ashore. We will preserve our memories of the day by creating our own beach collages.

Marine ROV Session II

Maritime Gloucester wants kids in grades 6-8 to build their own submersible robot! Project Sea Perch is a course in ROV (Remote Operated Vehicle) design and construction for middle school students. During the program students will have the opportunity to construct their own underwater robots, test them, and use them in scientific explorations of Gloucester Harbor. Students will keep their ROV’s at the close of the course.

Sea Scouts North Shore Open House

Sea Scouts are back on the North Shore!

It has been many years since Cape Ann operated an active Sea Scout group for youth, and Maritime Gloucester is proud to announce that it is starting a new Sea Scout “Ship” effective immediately.The program is a national co-ed outdoor program for young adults ages 14 to 20 that promotes knowledge of our nation’s maritime heritage and provides young people with positive opportunities through hands-on maritime education, training and experiences.

Do you know CPR? You can learn the techniques at Sawyer Free Library!

In this course by Family & Friends CPR, you will learn how to properly identify and care for breathing, choking, and cardiac emergencies with infants, children and adults. Infant and child CPR is indispensable for parents, babysitters, teachers, program staff, and anyone else who is in frequent contact with infants and small children. This is a non-certified course and is intended for people who want to learn CPR but do not need a completion card or other certification.
