New England Sled Dog Races - CANCELED

The N.E. Dog Sled Races are a great way for the family to get outside in January

THE 2013 SLED DOG RACES ARE CANCELED DUE TO LACK OF SNOW!

Join the New England Sled Dog Club for their 2013 Dog Sled Races at Appleton Farms!  This outdoor event will be host to many dog sled teams that will race from Appleton Farms south into Hamilton and back.  This is a great outdoor activity for the family to enjoy some fresh air as they witness a unique sport in a wonderful natural setting. There are many areas for spectating and these races so come early and to find the perfect spot for watching!

Museum of Science Night Sky Program

Museum of Science will bring their portable planetarium to Sawyer Free Library

Please join us for the "Night Sky" as the Museum of Science brings their inflatable planetarium to City Hall. Kids can explore the night sky, learn about the stars nearby and get some useful tips for stargazing in the back yard. This program is for Children ages 6 and over. Please register. Damsels and Dragons

Dragon Flys and Damsels flys eat a steady diet of mosquitos!

The return of summer means warmth, sun, and the return of jewel-like damselflies and dragonflies. Can you tell the difference between the two? These insects have an amazing life history and eat our least favorite flying insects, mosquitoes! We will spend the afternoon in the sanctuary's fields and wetlands catching dragonflies and observing them in their aquatic naiad stage. And by the end of the afternoon, you will know the difference between a dragon and a damsel and may even have the opportunity to hold one in your hand!

Late spring is a great time to experience on-the-water ecology, and kayaking is the perfect way to capture every moment. From wading birds to waterfowl, the salt marshes provide the backdrop to sights and sounds that are uniquely available from the water. Kayaking quietly on the calm waters of the Plum Island Sound, we'll visit secluded areas where we can witness wildlife without disturbing their activities. We may even see horseshoe crabs mating!
