Join the North Shore Amateur Astronomy Club (NSAAC) hosts their monthly meeting, and the public is welcome to come see the stars! For our June meeting we're going to take advantage of expected clear skies and do some observing from the fields near the Boxford Community Center at the corner of Middleton and Elm St, Boxford, Massachusetts 01921

Battle for Newbury at Spencer-Peirce

Come see a historical demonstration of militia encampment and battle demonstrations at Spencer Pierce Little Farm.

Meet Revolutionary War soldiers from both sides of the conflict. Members of the Continental Line and His Majesty's 10th Regiment of Foot will enact a battle to see what might have happened if the British had tried to recapture Boston by way of the Massachusetts North Shore. See colonial crafts and trades, mingle with reenactors, tour the camps, watch musket and cannon demonstrations, and take part in kids’ activities and games. Tour the 1690 manor house, the home of two of Newburyport’s Revolutionary War heroes! Sip an Ipswich Ale Brewery cask ale, a local beer brewed in the old style.

Donut Day at Cider Hill Farm

Our 3rd Annual Donut Day is on 6/1 from 10 am - 4 pm. And it’s WAY more than just donuts! Did you know National Donut Day started in Chicago in 1938 as a tribute to The Salvation Army “Doughnut Lassies”? The Lassies traveled overseas during WWI to help support & boost morale of front line troops by setting up small huts to provide supplies and baked goods. Nicknamed “Donut Lassies,” the women who served donuts to troops are often credited with popularizing the donut in the United States.

Sheep Shearing and Spinning Workshop at iFarm

Witness a shearing (no sheep will be hurt in the process) and learn to spin wool as 19th century New Englanders did! In this workshop, the group will witness the shearing of the ifarm shetland sheep to create beautiful fleeces. No sheep are harmed during this process, it is like getting a haircut.

Kids in the Kitchen Afternoon Cooking Series

Kids in the Kitchen Afternoon Cooking Series at Appleton Farms in Ipswich Massachusetts!

Appleton farms is launching a NEW afterschool cooking class for kids ages 8-12. Do you have a future chef on your hands or kid that loves taste testing with new recipes? We will get our hands dirty both out on the farm and in the kitchen! Each week we will use locally sourced ingredients, some of which we may harvest ourselves, to craft 2 delicious recipes. We will discuss topics like seasonality, following recipes, proper measuring and knife skills. Cooking experience is certainly not required, but a love off food is recommended!

No fancy pastry here, this workshop embraces the nostalgia of old-fashioned country-style baking here in New England!  We'll roll up our sleeves to prepare delicious sweet and savory recipes while learning fundamental measuring and baking principles, along with and proper methods and techniques for quick breads, filled cookies, yeast bread, and seasonal specialty fruit desserts.
