The Salem Jazz & Soul Festival is a free event the whole family will enjoy. Safiya Leslie is an artist and producer who transcends the norm. Flavoring her sounds with musical dialects hailing from jazz and her Afro-Caribbean roots. Safiya and her powerful band combine jazz chops, urban attitude, and Caribbean beauty.
The Essex Street Fair is a two-day event held in downtown Salem and is part of the Slemn Heritage Festivities! Come visit the Essex Street Fair during Salem Heritage Days to see over 40 vendors, listen to some live music, and enjoy historic Salem. Vendor sales include jewelry, handmade crafts, art, food, and much more! The Essex Street Fair will be held along the Essex Street Pedestrian Mall and you can shop on Saturday & Sunday, August 11 & 12, from 10am-6pm. Our 3rd Annual Donut Day is on 6/1 from 10 am - 4 pm. And it’s WAY more than just donuts! Did you know National Donut Day started in Chicago in 1938 as a tribute to The Salvation Army “Doughnut Lassies”? The Lassies traveled overseas during WWI to help support & boost morale of front line troops by setting up small huts to provide supplies and baked goods. Nicknamed “Donut Lassies,” the women who served donuts to troops are often credited with popularizing the donut in the United States.
