GAAC | It's Planet Season!

Come to Gloucester Area Astronomy Club to learn about the basics of stargazing!

The Gloucester Area Astronomy Club hosts the monthly meeting in Lanesville, North of Gloucester Massachusetts! We haven’t seen the usual summer planets in our evening skies yet this year, but Jupiter and Saturn rise earlier every night, and along with Uranus they’ll be visible during more convenient evening hours this fall.

Stargazing at Halibut Point

The GAAC invites you to discover the the world of Astromony at the Halibut Point

Come join the fun at Halibut Point State Park when the Gloucester Area Astronomy Club brings their powerful telescopes to view stars, galaxies, and planets! No telescope necessary, but feel free to bring your own if you have one. Don’t forget a flashlight and insect repellent. Rain or Clouds Cancels Program.

Eta Aquarids Meteor Shower Viewing

Join the North Shore Amateur Astronomy Club in a Star party at Sagamore Hill in Hamiklton Massachsusetts

Bring a flashlight and climb Sagamore Hill to watch one of the year's best meteor showers. The North Shore Amateur Astronomy Club members will also have their telescopes set up, so you can take turns taking a closer look at galaxies, nebulae, stars, planets and more! The Club members will answer your questions about the night sky while you enjoy the Aquarids Meteor Shower.

Observing Artificial Satellites

Come learn how to spot satellites at the Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary. Photo: NASA

The program will begin with an indoor presentation that will provide you with the information needed to be able to find and observe artificial satellites like the International Space Station and other human-made orbiting objects. Topics to be covered will include the nature of artificial satellite orbits, the best time of year for observing them, and how to identify them in the night sky. Weather permitting, we'll step outside afterwards to seek out artificial satellites and gaze into the night sky through the telescopes of local amateur astronomers. Along with the early springtime constellations, a young crescent moon and the planet Venus will be visible.

Imagine, Sing & Learn: Moon and Stars

Kids will learn about the moon and stars at the Joppa Flats Education Center in Newburyport!

These fun-filled morning programs with “Miss Lisa” are perfect for both you and your active preschooler! Our structured activities include hands-on science, music and movement, a thematic snack, and an outdoor adventure if the weather complies. Keep learning with take-home coloring pages and fun follow-up activities.

Astronomy After Hours at the MOS Observatory

Come to the Museum of Science rooftop for free stargazing and astronomy related

Tucked away on the roof of the Museum's parking garage, the Gilliland Observatory is a wonderful resource for our starry-eyed public. On clear nights, you can view stars, planets, the Moon, and other astronomical phenomena. On cloudy nights, tour the inside of the Observatory, and participate in astronomy-related activities run by our knowledgeable staff. Astronomy After Hours is the perfect place to kick off your weekend with your family.

Explore the stars with Trails & Sails and the North Shore Amateur Astronomy Club

Always wanted to know how to read the night sky? Come Star Gazing with the North Shore Amateur Astronomy Club to enjoy outdoor night sky observation. See open clusters, planetary nebulae, and galaxies millions of light years away. Telescopes provided on site.

The GAAC invites you to discover the the world of Astromony at the Lanesville Co

The Gloucester Area Astronomy Club invites you to their monthly meeting to discover the wonder of the night sky on Cape Ann!  There will still be a lot of astronomy going on! Stargazing will usually foolow the monthly meeting, which usually includes an astronomy presentation, and sometimes a special guest.  There is plenty of free parking, no dues or fees, and all are welcome. No special knowledge is required to have a great time.

Deep-Sky Astronomy

Come to Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary and learn about the stars!

Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary hosts a Springtime Stargazing Party! Hidden amongst the brighter stars of the night sky are the celestial jewels that one can only see with the assistance of a telescope and, to some extent, a good pair of binoculars. These are the deep-sky objects, which include variable stars, binary stars, star clusters, gaseous nebulae, galaxies, and more. In the indoor portion of this evening's program, we will review some of the many deep-sky objects of the spring constellations. Afterward, weather permitting, we'll step outside to view a small sampling of them using a large reflector telescope.
