Join Coastal Trails Coalition on a bike ride on the Coastal Trails in Newburyport, Amesbury and Salisbury on a combination of quiet streets and paved and stone dust trails, with two crossings of the Merrimack River beside US 1 and I-95. We’ll cycle through woods, salt marsh, neighborhoods, and Newburyport’s historic downtown. The total length is 12 miles on mostly flat terrain, with short climbs on the bridges over the river. If participants wish, the route can be extended to look at other parts of the system.
Come see the night skies through one of our volunteer’s telescopes! In addition to the moon (9/14 only) and Saturn well be showing off an assortment of binary and multi-star systems (imagine having 4 suns in your sky!), nebula, clusters, and galaxies, some of which are millions of light years away. Visit Long Hill’s breathtaking gardens and stately historic house for a guided tour. Enjoy the rich history of this grand country estate, home of the Sedgwick family, as you learn about the elegant lifestyle of wealthy Bostonians on the North Shore, and the artisans who created it. The tour takes you through the Federal-style house and the spectacular gardens, with terraces, statues, fountains, and pagodas, each section filled with unique perennial flowers from around the world. Highlights of the tour include a room filled with stunning 19th century Chinese wallpaper, the evolution of the stunning Sedgwick gardens, and the hidden connection between the house and an old Southern antebellum mansion.

The Essex County Greenbelt Association is hosting the annual Vineyard Hill Trail Race, featuring both 5k and 10k options. Located on the town line of Hamilton and Topsfield, this 5K/10K course takes runners over Vineyard Hill, through sections of Bradley Palmer State Park, along the Bay Circuit Trail, and across Greenbelt’s scenic Shaw Field. The trails are generally wide and rolling, though Vineyard Hill itself adds a challenge to the course!
Kids Bowl Free is a program where select bowling centers offer free bowling to kids all summer long. This program is designed by bowling centers to give back to the community and provide a safe, secure, and fun way for kids to spend time this summer.
The Yukan Run Triple Threat Race Series is a half marathon or 5k. There's something for everyone in the race series - serious runners, enthusiasts and even walkers are invited to race! Proceeds from the races go to local charities. Sign up for one or both, it will be a great morning filled with healthy fun!
The Newbuyrport Yankee Homecoming Bed Race is an annual event in Newburyport hosted by the Lions Club of Newburyport. The race is a ¼ mile team sprint down Federal Street to the finish line. Each team consists of 3 pushers, 2 pullers and a 'sleeper', and the goal is to get to the finish line with the bed and sleeper in the fastest time! This is a fun event for the community and always draws a big crowd. Come cheer on your favorite team, or just watch the fun! Funds raised will go to Lions Club charities.
