The Pan-Mass Challenge Marblehead Kids Ride will be one of 35 PMC Kids Rides held in neighborhoods throughout New England and beyond. Through the PMC Kids Rides program, nearly 6,000 cyclists between the ages of two and 15 will ride between one and 26 miles in mini-bike-a-thons to raise money for cancer research.
Join Hamilton-Wenham Public Library as they host a planting party to get your garden started! Choose one of three Growums gardens kits to use - pizza garden, herb garden or taco garden! Each kit contains magically expanding soil to plant different herbs or vegetables. All material provided. This program is designed for children 4 and up. The Fast Chicks 5k is a Hamilton-Wenham Mother's Club sponsored community fundraiser race that celebrates active women and raises funds for a selected charity each year. There's also a FREE kids race - a 100 yard dash! Now in it's third year, the race begins and ends at Patton park and funds raise this year will go to the Wellspring House, a North Shore organization based in Gloucester that empowers individuals and families to live more secure lives through basic needs assistance, education and job training.
Looking for something fun to do with the kids during school vacation? Join The Trustees of Reservations at the Hamlin Reservation on a treasure hunt and hike. Kids will search for natural treasure (and some man-made as well!) as they walk through the gently rolling fields of this former farmland, then over a dike path that leads to a loop trail around Eagle Island in the marshes of Ipswich. Bring your sharpest skills of observation and a bag to collect your treasures!
Children ages 4 and up are invited to come to the library Lego Club. This is a drop-in program requiring no sign up. Drop in any time between 10am and 12pm. (We will have Duplos for the younger kids.) Show off your building skills or just get creative.
The Peabody Institute Library - Danvers is in big Bubble Trouble! A bubble volcano. Bubble roller coaster. A kid in a bubble? Jeff Boyer takes bubbles to the max in this one-man bubble extravaganza. It’s the craziest, most creative bubble show around. Jeff juggles bubbles, sculpts and builds with bubbles, makes fog-filled bubbles and more. Mixing comedy, music and interactive bubble-magic with science, he engages and delights audiences of all ages.
Whether you're running or spectating at the Boston Marathon this year, a visit to Museum of Science will teach you the latest in endurance sports science! The museum has created special exibits and hands-on activities that will allow visitors to explore the science behind long-distance endurance running. Combined with presentations by special guests, visitors will gain a better understanding the forces experienced by the runner's body, and what training does to minimize their effects.
Preschoolers will Imagine, Sing the Learn about animal groups in this session! This parent/child program is designed for the creative, curious, and active preschooler. Each 90-minute session offers a structured series of activities including original songs, movement, dramatic play, hands-on science, and a thematic snack. You'll receive coloring pages, song lyrics, vocabulary, a fun fact sheet, and a suggested reading list in an electronic goody bag!
