Join us as we share a children's nature story before we explore the woods, fields, and wetlands of the Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary. This month we'll focus on animals preparing for Winter by foraging nature's harvest.
In this class kids will dye a tea towel with natural dyes and learn about how natural dyes are made. They'll also explore seed travel and talk about how plants get ready for the winter. Kids will make a nature weave and spider web picture, learn about spiders and look at web designs.
Explore the transitional zone of the wrack line afterschool in Newburyport! This class will include exploration of our portable beach with close examination of sea shells, crab molts, skate egg cases, driftwood and other natural objects that can be found on the beach at high tide. We will get to see live scud under the microscope, and learn about shorebirds that find food at the tide line. We will play the shorebird migration game. and then everyone will get to help us with a mini beach clean up to learn about why plastics and Styrofoam don’t belong on the beach. We’ll give everyone a challenge called “getting out of a bind” and then we’ll make a art project with recycled soda and water bottles that they will get to take home!
Kids will learn about a variety of different animals from around the world at the Manche Creature Teachers will present exotic animals up close and personal for children. Learn guitar anatomy, tuning, strumming and picking. Use tablature and diagrams to learn melodies and chords. Focus will be on good technique and practice strategy, basic music, theory, and of course, playing song and having fun!
Join watercolorist Brenda Sloane in a monthly program that combines nature and art. We will start with a walk on the sanctuary to observe the topic of the month. We will then return to the Nature Center to create a follow-up work of art.
The Children's Museum of New Hampshire is welcoming colossal canine Clifford The Big Red Dog As part of the Books Alive program. Museum staff will be reading a variety of Clifford stories written by Norman Bridwell throughout the day. The big friendly dog himself will be popping in and out to greet children, exchange a hug or high-five, and pose for photos. There will also be a variety of dog-inspired literacy, math and creative activities for children to participate in.
Children between the ages of four and nine years old will have a chance to interact with a real Jedi Knight. Jedi Knight Training will be held on the Common — an interactive performance that is great for both boys and girls! Children are led through a series of challenges including Jedi Force Magic, the Laser Balloon Barrage and Jedi Teamwork culminating in an epic lightsaber duel with the Jedi Master himself. This FREE event is open to children aged 4-9, and costumes are encouraged!
