You just can't beat a cold bottle of milk from the local farm! Appleton Farms announced today that they have broken ground for a retail shop at the farm where they will sell milk and other dairy products from their grass fed Jersey Cows! This is a big step for Appleton Farms and is a huge opportunity for North Shore families who are looking for locally produced food.
The shop will begin selling milk in early November, when the planned construction of the shop is complete. It will be located in the large barn closest to the Route 1A entrance to the farm in Ipswich. Planned hours of operation will be Monday through Friday 2-6 pm. You do not have access to view this node has also agreed to sell Appleton Farms' milk at their location as well.
Award winning master cheese maker, and tenth generation dairy farmer John Miller will over see the operations. “In addition to the milk, we’ll be making a wide variety of fresh and aged cheeses, butter, and other Jersey-milk products” said Miller. “Jerseys are an ideal breed for this sort of operation. They produce milk of superior flavor and that contains higher levels of important nutrients, like protein and calcium. We are excited to share these high quality products with the North Shore community and beyond."
Milk will be bottled at Puleo's Dairy in Salem. Puleo's was selected as a partner for its use of glass bottles and it's pasteurization processing that has been fine-tuned to minimize damage to the milk product.
