Come explore what nature has in store at some of our most amazing wild places on the north shore. Our engaging and experienced staff will introduce families to local beaches, forests, and wetlands to make observations in nature, identify wildlife, and enjoy hands on science activities outdoors. Some animals hibernate, some migrate, and some stay active in winter. Explore the sanctuary woodlands looking for clues of what animals have been eating and where they have been sleeping. Discover tracks in the snow and guess which animals made them. We will cover the basics during a short indoor introduction, but most of our time will be spent in the woods following the trails of raccoons, coyotes, foxes, and other woodland animals!

Join us for a very special evening hike to see the owls who might be out and about in the dark winter woods and fields of Appleton Farms. This hike will take place along the trails of Appleton, known to have multiple species of owls. Before our hike, you’ll learn about wintertime nocturnal animals and what to listen for on your journey. Then, we’ll embark on a 45-60 minute hike as we follow some of Appleton Farms’ most beautiful trails to see what we can hear.
