After a walk in the woods, check for ticks before getting in the car!
If you spend any amount of time outdoors on the North Shore, you should be aware of ticks, where they live, how they feed and what to do if you find a tick on your body or biting into your skin. Ticks are arachnids that are closely related to spiders. They feed by attaching themselves to animals and sucking blood. Ticks on the North Shore primarily transmit two dangerous infections - Lyme Disease and Babesiosis (a blood parasite commonly confused with malaria).

 

Kids bowl free is a program designed to help kids stay active and safe.
Kids Bowl Free is a program where select bowling centers offer free bowling to kids all summer long. This program is designed by bowling centers to give back to the community and provide a safe, secure, and fun way for kids to spend time this summer.

 

Lifetime Wave Kayaks are very bouyant, stable and great platforms to learn on.
We live near a tidal cove that is great for our four year old to play in especially at mid tide when the water is about as deep as a wading pool. It's allowed both of our kids to become comfortable with the water as we have done water activities like swimming, jumping in waves and even kayaking together.  My kayak has a baby seat that my son used in the past, but his sister is ready to start using that spot, and it was time for 'B' to have his own kayak.

 

Poison Ivy has three leaves on each branch node. "Leaves of Three, Let it Be."
Anybody who has ever had a case of poison ivy will tell you that they wish they could go back in time and avoid ever having contact with the plant - and that's precisely the best way to deal with it.  If you and your children can identify the plant and avoid coming into contact with the oily residue on its leaves, everyone is bound to have much more fun this summer!

 

Kids will explore nature and express what they learn through art at Joppa Flats!
Nature's beauty is all around us. Let's open our eyes and explore nature as artistic inspiration! Join teachers Jan and Lee for these series, and learn how creativity intersects with science, technique, and construction in a fun and rewarding way. Materials will be provided. Parents are welcome but not required to stay. Each series requires a minimum of four participants.
