Maudslay State Park hosts the North Shore New England MTB Association's kids ride. Come on out and explore the trails alongside the Merrimack River and learn the mountain biking skills! For ages 6-16. Certified Ride Leaders and the MTB Patrol will guide kids by their skill levels. Registration recommended.
Join the park Interpreter for a guided paddle on the pond. Call ahead for pre-registration. Bring insect repellant, water and sunscreen, and a life jacket if you have one. Must have prior paddling experience. Meet at the beach on Frye Pond. Under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
This program is for pre-K level. This is a basic introduction to the forest and a short hike to acclimate children to the outdoors. Recommend bringing water, insect repellent, sun screen, binoculars and camera.
Come venture along the sanctuary trails on a sensory tour. We will explore the magic of the outdoors by using our many senses. Let's see what we can discover using our eyes, ears, nose, hands, and even taste. Using found materials from nature, we will create a nature collage.
Curious about robots? A representative from iRobot will bring their robots to the library. Enjoy a presentation and hands-on demonstration of robots used both in the home and by soldiers and emergency response teams.
Kids will learn all about Hula Hooping at Sawyer Free Library. Pinto Bella Hula Hoops will have a live demonstration where kids will learn the history of hula hoops, the benefits of the activity and how to do it properly! Kids will then have a chance to try for themselves, and then join iun on organized games and use teamwork to see how fun and energizing Hula Hooping can be! For kids in grades K-5!
Have you ever seen a water boatman up close? How about a caddisfly larva or water scorpion? If not, then join us for a summer morning of pond dipping. Using hand lenses, microscopes, and strainers, we'll search for turtles and frogs and delight in the sights and smells of a morning on the pond. We will provide sketch pads, pastels, and watercolors so you can recreate your findings in detail.
In this LEGO half-day program, LEGO builders come together to design and build their own motorized remote-controlled robots, using Lego® Mindstorms. In teams of two, they incorporate physics, mechanical engineering, and programming concepts while building the fastest, strongest, smallest, and largest robots to compete in a variety of challenges. Instructor Jo-Ann Gorrell, a mother of five sons, is a mechanical engineer, founder of Engineering Action, and a Lego-maniac.
Kids will learn about a variety of different animals from around the world at the Sawyer Free Library. The summer kickoff program with Creature Teachers will feature exotic animals up close and personal for children. Children will learn about the diverse habitats of our planet and the animals that live there. Ages 3 and up.
