The museum has created special exibits and hands-on activities that will allow visitors to explore the science behind long-distance endurance running. Combined with presentations by special guests, visitors will gain a better understanding the forces experienced by the runner's body, and what training does to minimize their effects.

It’s Base Ball, 1861 style at Spencer Peirce Little Farm! Watch the teams of the new Essex Base Ball Association play for the Championship! The Newburyport Clamdiggers, Portsmouth Rockinghams, Lynn Live Oaks, and Lowell Base Ball Nine will play baseball using 1860s rules. These fun, historically accurate games feature underhand pitching and no gloves are allowed. A ball bounced once and caught is an out! Snacks, baseballs, and cards are available for purchase. These three hour tours are great for families to explore the Meerimack River and its extuary, see the wildlife and experience settings that your can't reach in larger boats! Late spring is a great time to experience on-the-water ecology, and kayaking is the perfect way to capture every moment. From wading birds to waterfowl, the salt marshes provide the backdrop to sights and sounds that are uniquely available from the water. Kayaking quietly on the calm waters of the Plum Island Sound, we'll visit secluded areas where we can witness wildlife without disturbing their activities. We may even see horseshoe crabs mating!
