Join watercolorist Brenda Sloane in a monthly program that combines nature and art. We will start with a walk on the sanctuary to observe the topic of the month. We will then return to the Nature Center to create a follow-up work of art.

This Imagine, Sing and Learn is an active, fun, program where you and your child will learn about a wide variety of birds, insects, and ocean animals and how they find their way and how they travel in nature! We’ll find out how bears and salmon use their sense of smell, how bees use the sun to find their food, and how whales use sound to follow the coastline.

Our theme is Animal Partners and it takes place indoors at Joppa Flats Education Center. This 90 minute program is all about which animals team up with other animals in nature. From fish to honeybees, to hermit crabs and anemones - we will learn why animals work together to become babysitters, housecleaners, and bodyguards to each other!

Jackie King, co-owner of A&J King Artisan Bakers in Salem, will show you the basics of tart production and assembly using three distinct methods. Based on the recipes and techniques outlined in her new book, Baking by Hand, participants will create three tarts from start to finish—to bring home or eat right away! This class is perfect for the aspiring pastry chef, sweet lover, or home cook.
