Join at Swampscott Conservancy at Salem High School* for a Saturday morning Hike! and walk over to Salem Woods which abuts the golf course. The trails in Salem Woods are relatively narrow and are rated as moderate. Hike is about 2.5 miles and should take less than 2 hours. Dogs (on leash) and Children welcome. Please be able to keep up a 2 mph pace (usually not a problem for children). Rain date Saturday 10/16 at the same time and place.
See and learn about the fishes living in Salem Harbor as part of Trails & Sails! At this seining demonstration, Salem Sound Coastwatch staff will drag a large seining net through the water onto the beach. We’ll examine the catch and coastal scientists will talk about marine habitats and the ecology of Salem Sound.
House of Seven Gables hosts a Trails & Sails tour that focuses on the gardens and grounds! Join us for our newly developed historic grounds tour – one of a series of specialized tours currently in the works at The House of the Seven Gables. Take a stroll through the lesser-known history of our gardens and grounds. Learn about the original layout of the site through archival images and maps, then delve into Nathaniel Hawthorne’s novel through his depictions of the fictional Pyncheon gardens.
As part of COASTSWEEP Beach Cleanup, volunteers are encouraged to come to Forest River Park to help in the statewide effort to keep our coastline clean along the shore of Salem Massachusetts. Trash collected will be measured and analyzed, and the data will be sent to Washington DC to aid the government in creating legislation to minimize trash in our oceans!
Salem Ancestry Days will celebrate ancestral and immigrant connections to Salem, Massachusetts with lectures, tours, research opportunities, and an exhibitor fair.
The Salem community is coming together to connect visitors and locals with genealogy research and wonderful family stories during the first Salem Ancestry Days in May. Events, which will be held at locations around Salem, will include lectures, tours, research sessions, open houses, and an “Ancestry Fair,” which will be held at the Salem Waterfront Hotel & Suites.
Come race the Festivus 5k in downtown Salem Massachusetts and raise funds for the Northshore Education Consortium of Beverly to help them purchase technology to assist and educate children with autism! Festivus 5K (F5K) for Autism is a yearly Festivus-themed holiday race through historic Salem, MA. The event is sponsored by Friends of North Shore Education Consortium. To date, F5K has raised over $100,000 to help children with autism and their families. Costumes are welcome and encouraged!

Your favorite fearful Poe poems and stories — including The Raven and The Fall of the House of Usher — come to life at this all-ages show. We'll perform by lantern light in the historic GEDNEY HOUSE at 21 High Street, Salem.
