The Gloucester Maritime Rendezvous celebrates the combined heritage of two great fishing towns and their connection to the sea. Gloucester, Massachusetts and Luneburg, Nova Scotia. In this annual tradition, once more the Gloucester International Dory Racing Committee hosts the Canadian Dory Rowing Association from Nova Scotia to compete against the best dory rowers from Gloucester, going head-to-head on Gloucester's historic harbor.  Boat tours and deck tours happen daily and there are many opportunities available to sail aboard the particitpating vessels!

The Magnolia Road Show is a sale, auction and appraisal service hosted by the Magnolia Historical Society that is intended to raise funds for the purchase of the Blynman School on Magnolia Avenue. This massive sale of thousands of items acquired by the Historical Society is a way to purge their inventory and take steps to preserve a landmark in the village of Magnolia.

Come on up to Essex Elementary School and ring in the cold winter with a hot pancake breakfast! Suggested contribution is $10 per individual or $25 for a family and all proceeds go to Essex Elementary fifth grade students’ end-of-year activities and the student activities fund. This free, 2-hour class for high school students and adults is taught by John Kotch, a black belt instructor in Isshin-Ryu Karate The class is designed for women to learn how to protect themselves when faced with uncomfortable situations and how to avoid them in the first place. The instruction will include techniques used in Isshin-Ryu karate (known as a street, self-defense style based upon survival tactics) as well as those utilized by various martial arts styles, military and law enforcement personnel. The following will be covered: improving self-awareness; hand and foot techniques; hold-breaks, ground techniques and basic weapons defense.
