Shore Country Day School celebrated its 75th Anniversary and Head of School, Lawrence A. Griffin’s, 25th year with a Gala celebration on Saturday, April 28, 2012. Over 630 of the school’s current and past parents, faculty and staff, and alumni gathered for a surprise honoring of Griffin, of Hamilton, who has lead the institution for one third of its existence.
Co-chaired by Manchester residents, Whitney Savignano and Mimi McFadden, the affair was held in two large tents on the Shore Country Day School campus. A photo gallery of the school through the ages was on prominent display while guests mingled and toured campus buildings. The evening included toasts and tributes to Mr. Griffin, dinner by Timothy Hopkins Catering, and dancing to the music of The First Class Band.
The highlight of the evening was the trustee’s announcement that over 12 million dollars has already been raised in support of a new campaign that will increase the school endowment and complete the campus with a new building to be named in Griffin’s honor. The new building will be the largest on the Shore campus at 30,000 square feet and includes a 375-seat theater, innovation lab, art and music classrooms, as well as community and classroom space. Construction will begin this June with an anticipated open date of September 2013. Following the event, Griffin commented, “the support in this community is overwhelming and I do not have the words to capture my emotions."
