The Children’s Art Festival is a community-arts celebration offering hands-on art activities for children approximately 10 years and younger. Activities are free, somewhat messy and children must be accompanied by an adult. In addition to our annual ‘festival favorites’, this year’s art theme is Celebrating Great Artists and features the following:
-
Sammia Atoui of Mira Mar Print Lab in Swampscott will instruct youth in a stenciled, silk screen project using water-based ink and Stonehenge paper to create an Andy Warhol inspired print.
-
Fish like Frost with creative input from Tali Minelli of Think Art: aims to create a modern version of J.O.J Frost’s folk-style cod, while connecting with a bit of Marblehead history.
-
Sonia’s Circles enables even the tiniest hands to mix and match precut circles to form a colorful mobile. Inspired by French artist Sonia Delaunay.
-
Coloring the Masters uses a variety of mediums on sturdy coloring pages to bring to life iconic images such as Van Gough’s Sunflowers, Salvador Dali’s Melting Clocks and more.
-
Scratch Art creations will enable children to use a free-style, expressionistic drawing approach in honor of artist Paul Klee of Switzerland.
-
Sustainable Marblehead will celebrate environmental art while instructing children to build-your-own habitat from found, reusable materials.
-
Dot Painting is a fun way to celebrate indigenous Aboriginal artist Emily Kane Kngwarreye with her “dump-dump style” paint.
